Awesome stay, once again
Only complaint for this lovely hotel is that the complimentary breakfast is no longer available. This was our third stay here and brought the in-laws along this time, it was Christmas magical like last year and loved every minute of it!

I am a customer for life!
This is not your typical hotel. It is an older hotel that has been redone... remodled. My stay was wonderful. People at the front desk were very friendly. I love the 3 floors of lobby's. Soft music playing. Lots of leather chairs to sit and read or play cards on each floor. Terrific decor. Very peaceful. The room, itself, was very nice. It was small, but it was just me. King size bed, very comfortable. Bathroom was huge. Very nice tile in bathroom. TV in bedroom was a bit small. Flatscreen on wall... about 17". I was right across from the Fox theather and if the windows are closed, I didn't hear much noise. Catacom restaurant is amazing. A bit pricy and call an hour before for reservations, but it's terrific. If you are looking for a non-commercial hotel, this is for you. I really enjoyed my stay.

Middle-aged concert goer
Very nice suprise!
Very nice experience. Helpful, friendly staff. Very clean and modern, but certainly not generic. It is actually a little eclectic gem in downtown Spokane. It has elegant charm with the reading areas and library. Close to downtown shopping and perfect if you are a concert goer at the Knitting Factory or Bing Crosby theater (each within a block's distance). Continental breakfast was standard, but nice and very plentiful. Eating area is the pub in the "catacombs" (basement) and was very clean and modern. Parking is by valet, or street parking is available outside the door (both metered and pay-lot parking). A bar on the opposite side of the alley (south side)can get a little noisy at night, but during my stay was not a problem. The train tracks through town are just a few hundred yards south and you do hear the trains. However, there is no hotel in this vicinity where you don't hear the train. The trains are actually going very slow at that locality so while I heard it - it did not cause me problems with sleep or enjoyment (seemed just to be background city noise and I was able to tune it out ok). My bathroom was huge for a hotel and well supplied with amenities. My queen bed was deluxe, comfy and warm. Wifi in the room. Generous TV channel selection. Furniture was clean, robust, nice and in near-new condition. This is not a cheap, run-down hotel at all. For the price it was a great find. I would certainly stay there again without exception. If I had one request it would be that they had free parking, but that is a tall order in the middle of downtown Spokane. Very happy stay.

Good coffer after poor night of sleep
We went to a concert at the knitting factory. The hotel is in a perfect location...right across the street from the concert. Ate dinner in the basement restaurant...very good. Hotel staff were great. The hotel itself was very cool. The problem was the noise and the bed. We stayed in room 215. I don't know if it was their furnace or if it was the pipes but there was a sound (loud) like running water the whole time. I had ear plugs, but we could barely hear the tv. Then the bed...need to get new mattresses. I was bummed. The hotel was very cool but sleep was bad. Oh, we could also hear the neighbors enjoying themselves...

Decent by noisy
This is a very nice hotel in the heart of Spokane. We loved its location and history; the size of the room; the bathroom and a decent continental breakfast. On a negative side the rooms are not very well insulated. The train tracks are nearby as well as a couple of bars. So if you need an absolutely quite night you will not find it there. Still, we would recommend it.

NOT Sleeples in Spokane
The Montvale: Unique design with massive sitting-room atrium. great library and antique furniture, but has state-of-art coffee maker and cookies. 1899 restored building, but rooms look like the 1950's - cool. Wonderful restaurant in the former coal bunker beneath hotel. Has brick oven food and is the site of the complimentary breakfast. Across from restored art-deco 20th Century Fox theater. $15 valet parking is great.

Definitely a keeper!
I really enjoyed my stay at the Montvale Hotel. The staff was very helpful. The complimentary breakfast was nice. We really enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel. I would definitely stay here again, while also recommending that my friends stay here! We were going to use the valet parking, but had to wait so long for the staff to get back from their break (at 2am) that we decided to just park on the street, which was much more economical! This was the only downside. If you're a light sleeper, you might want to bring some ear plugs along, as the trains are nearby. All around a great experience.

Money-saving tip:
Not Applicable
If you are not going to be at the hotel for extented time periods during the day, use the metered street parking. At night, there are an abundance of parking spots, as long as you remember to go feed the meter before 8am.

Nicely Done!
The Max was a very nice, although quixotic, rendition of the Craftsman era style. The lift was done in a strange 80's disco marble that didn't jive with the rest of the decor, but I certainly appreciated the efficiency of the modern elevator! My room was spacious and high-ceilinged, with a likewise generously appointed bathroom that appeared to be outfitted by Pottery Barn. (Full disclosure: my own bathroom has liberally used Pottery Barn for fixtures.) Looking at the emergency evacuation map it appears that every room is different, and I enjoy that kind of variety. The bed was very comfortable, with good linens. Do stay if you find yourself in Spokane; the location is especially good for cinema, theater and live music within walking distance.
