Great downtown location!

Third time we've stated at the Ruby. It's practically across the street from The Knitting Factory. It's very nicely remodeled and a great price! The new Sapphire Lounge makes a stiff drink too! We'll be back!

the beautiful old Davenport Hotel, just across the street from the Ruby, is a must see. before 6:00PM they had a 3 course early-bird dinner served in the gorgeous lobby for only $15.00 a person - a real steal!

Great Value and Location, Could Use Some Improvements

This hotel is located in the area that you want to be if you are active and like the night scene. Parking is tight on the hotel grounds but that is just how most downtown's are. There are plenty of cheap lots around if you require an easier parking access but parking is free on the hotel grounds. The rooms are a little small but are very well laid out if you are just requiring a place to sleep and shower. The decor is modern with some nice touches. I like the slide-out bedside swivel lamp, it was very strategically located. Unfortunately for me I needed an area in room with a larger workstation because I was on a business/leisure trip and space was cramped. There is space enough to set a laptop upon and work but, I require more space with my line of work. The rooms were very clean the in room fridge and microwave were nice to have available. I did not get to visit the Sapphire Lounge but it looked very modern and trendy and the place to be! My only gripe was that upon check -in the attendant fielded a personal call right in the middle of our check-in and pretty much handed us our keys and we went on our way to figure the hotel out ourselves. The rest of the interaction with the staff was very pleasant, but the whole town is full of very nice people. There is room for improvement but for the location and price you can't beat this place. (It was almost half as much as most other hotels in the area)

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

There are so many things to do in Spokane, and at worst, this hotel would be half a mile away from any attraction. The city is very pedestrian friendly and unless you absolutely need a car, I would recommend that you don't need one.

Ruby is great!

My band was in Spokane to film a documentary for KSPS. We needed an inexpensive place to crash for a couple days. The Ruby fit the bill perfectly. Not fancy, but close to our venue, restaurants, and bars. Friendly staff. Clean. The Lounge/Restaurant was not open yet, but we were told it was imminent. Great value!

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

The "Baby Bar" in the back of Neato Burrito is a cool, friendly little spot to get loaded.

Cool little hotel

We chose this hotel because of it's perfect location relative to The Knitting Factory, where we went to see a concert. It's a neat hotel that combines retro style with a modern aesthetic. It's unlike any hotel I've ever stayed in. It was reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly. My only issues were with the lack of parking in their tiny lot and the beds were a little firm for my liking, but that is just a personal preference. I'd recommend this hotel!

Nice upgrade

This was apparently a scary old motel that's undergoing a jazzy upgrade. The room was very clean, comfortable bedding, and the staff helpful and friendly. There are plans to open an on-site lounge in May 2011. I booked this because of the downtown location within walking distance of where I needed to be. There is on site free parking that is first come, first served (not enough spaces for all rooms). The breakfast is basic. The wall heater/AC unit was noisy and I could hear the next room's alarm clock so light sleepers might want to bring earplugs. I'd stay here again.

Horrible, not as described or pictured!

Open letter to media, etc: My husband works for a concert production company that was producing a show in Spokane on Monday, October 25, 2010. Wanting to be close to the venue and having heard that the Hotel Ruby was renovating into a new, hip place to stay, I gave them a call a week before the show. I specifically asked for and was assured I would receive "an ADA-accessible wheelchair room," so I had the rest of the production crew book a room there, too, knowing we would all be staying in the same location. I left my phone number and email when I booked the room, so I was completely flabbergasted when I arrived at the hotel after a seven hour drive and was met (after being assisted up a step to the hotel lobby) by a clerk who told me there were no wheelchair rooms in the facility. The poor girl, who was working alone at night in the city, locked up the lobby and showed my husband and I two rooms and a suite – all of which had bathroom doors no wider than 24 inches. After taking us back to the lobby and hearing I could not possibly stay there, much less pay to do so, the clerk offered to call and find me another room. She called a nearby motel that was no more accessible than the Ruby and booked my husband and I a room there. It was only the beginning of a trip to hell… I'm still told that the Hotel Ruby is renovating. If this is true and they're using any form of bank loan, they're probably using federal funds – meaning they MUST reasonably comply with the ADA. Widening a few doorways and adding pocket doors seems quite reasonable to me, how about you? I am requesting that all people who have ever known someone with a disability join me in a general boycott of this business until they can show compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
