Without question one of the most gorgeous public rooms in the city, the octagonal Fireside Room is the perfect place for quiet chats and light dining by the crackling fire. Original paintings by Morris Graves, plush wingback chairs and couches, gleaming mahogany-paneled walls, and rich tones of russet, ruby, and gold create a warmly inviting ambience. The focal point is the fireplace with its antique tiled pottery mosaic depicting an Italian landscape. The Fireside Room offers light dinners and a formal afternoon tea daily. On Friday and Saturday evenings live entertainment is performed by a featured musician or band. Open from early afternoon until late evening

What's Right with Sorrento

Excellent throw-back to a better time when one could find a place to ignore the NFL. Accomplishable here. Staff was most accommodating with responses that are rare. "We will be right there", "your car will be right up" we will bring you a couple of wine glasses immediately". You begin to relax the moment you sense that you will be taken care of, and you are. Thank you

Little gem

It is a pleasure to see a traditional, hundred year old hotel downtown so well preserved. The daily rug change in elevator and in-room french press coffee add nice touch. Very cozy.

The people are great, the building is not.

If I had to describe the hotel to someone I would say it is charming or unique. I would not use the word "great". The staff is nice and they work hard and are helpful but the building is old and needs work. The elevator can be finicky. The windows let every sound from outside in. The bathrooms are so small an average-sized person needs to sit on the toilet at an angle so his knees don't hit the wall. There was a lot to enjoy about this place. The lounge was nice. The beds were soft. And there was fresh fruit and an elevator carpet that tells you what day it is (seriously). But if you're looking for a quiet night's sleep you may want to look elsewhere. It's a convenient location but it's not everything for everyone. Shop around for a hotel. This isn't a slam dunk place.

If you are used to staying at a 4 or 5 star hotel this is not it

From service to amenities, room size, bed size, and location. I might consider going back to see Dee at the lounge (he was terrific) and shuttle driver was very accommodating but otherwise no, not a 4 or 5 star experience.

Awesome

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, lovely room, what more could the heart of man desire? Spent one night here, but wish it could have been more - it was a lovely (if pricey) experience. The hotel has a lovely feel to it. There was music in the lounge in the evening, so we ordered some food and enjoyed the ambiance of the wood panelled room, listening to Overton Berry play piano. Couldn't have been a nicer end to the trip. Hotel staff were great in the morning - we had a late flight out from Seattle, so left our luggage and car at the hotel, checked out and explored Seattle a bit before collecting everything in the afternoon and heading off to the airport. And finally ... they have a cafetiere in the room - the first time my wife had proper coffee in a week and a half - oh, it was impossible to wipe the smile from her face. I think she would have awarded 5 stars on that basis alone!

Entertainment tip: In Hotel

The lounge is lovely, and the act (Overton Berry) was splendid - there really isn't a better way to spend an evening that chilling out with some live music and some (very reasonably priced) wine!

Great vintage vibe, location is a little out of the way.

Beautiful woodwork in the main entrance and the rooms were nicely decorated with comfy linens and pillows. We upgraded to the corner suite, which was worth the extra $ per night! The suite was huge with a separate bedroom, dining area, couch/chairs, bar area, and bathroom. The elevator is a bit tiny and slow, but staff and ambience were great. The location is about a 10 minute walk from downtown and we found that stores and restaurants nearby in the Capitol Hill/First Hill neighborhood closed pretty early (10pm), but its a nice alternative and better value than most hotels downtown.

Great hotel, Classic but vintage

Very nice hotel. It is vintage so keep in mind some things are a bit old. However, I do appreciate that it's not Home Depot construction. Their beds, linens, and towels compare to a five star resort in terms of comfort level. Also, the toiletries and teas were great.
