Almost 400 works by 39 Seattle artists and photographers decorate rooms and public spaces. The Hotel Max takes advantage of its art niche to occasionally offer packages and deals tied to exhibits at the nearby Seattle Art Museum. The Hotel Max's restaurant, Redfin, focuses on Japanese specialties and serves breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner.
Highlights
  • Art work by local artists and photographers on display in the lobby, hallways and guest rooms
  • Aveda-brand bathroom amenities
  • Close to well-known Seattle restaurants, including Wild Ginger
  • Pet friendly (fees apply)
Rooms

Not surprisingly, each room at the Hotel Max sports an arty title. Solo art has a double bed and teak desk. Art of two beds rooms boast two double beds. Queen of art rooms sport a queen bed and artist king has king-size beds. Soothing tones of sage, charcoal gray and vegetal oranges decorate each room. All rooms have high thread-count linens and duvets, robes, coffee makers with Organa coffee and Steven Smith tea, Aveda bath amenities, a menu of pillow choices and a menu of spiritual inspiration suitable for almost any belief system.

Features

An art-filled lobby, guest rooms and hallways underscore the Hotel Max's dedication to art and Seattle-area artists and photographers. If the point is to create a serene environment, the Hotel Max follows up admirably with rooms done in calming hues. In-room tea accompanies in-room coffee and a spiritual menu promises inspiration for almost any faith or belief system. A whimsical "you got it" button on the telephone links guests with hotel services.

Groove Factor X

The room was postage stamp-sized, but appointments were excellent, as was the quality of the bed. Very young clientele, over-the-top decoration, but the staff was very friendly and my stay was satisfactory. Good price, good location.

Sopisticated, urban vibe

The Hotel Max is beautifully situated -- just 3 blocks from the Convention Center and about 6 blocks from the famous Seattle marketplace. The decor is chic and contemporary, with a dramatic, yet cozy, black and red lobby. Original artwork hangs in each room and throughout the hotel. The hotel's restaurant served delicious breakfasts with friendly, chatty service. The room was VERY small, as was the bathroom, but decorated to maximize the limited footage. Some unique offerings in the room included a pillow menu (from which you could select your favorite pillow style), a spiritual menu (for choosing the spiritual/religious reading you most prefer.), and most surprising -- a pleasure kit in the mini-bar (Yes. That kind of pleasure). Families traveling with children may want to hide the pleasure kit away before having the kids explore the drawers... All in all, the Hotel Max was an original, convenient hotel experience.

Nice hotel great downtown location

The hotel was great- nice restaurant that had a good happy hour. Easy walk to most downtown activities, the market, shopping, theater and restaurants. So once you've valet parked your car you can forget it. Which was a good thing because in the morning eveyone checks out at the same time and it takes a long time to get your car back. Plan ahead if you have to be somewhere at a specific time.

Small and funky

This was a good place to stay for a sight-seeing, weekend trip to Seattle. It's in a good location for walking to points of interest (and loans big umbrellas for when you still want to walk, but it's raining!). The decor and featured artwork is creative, unique and adds to the aesthetic of the hotel. I appreciated having one-of-a-kind artwork in the bedroom as well. The room was tiny and the bathroom was the size of a matchbox, so it's not ideal for more than two people (if that). No bathtub either! Overall, it's a great place to stay for a short trip where you want to get a sense of Seattle culture, but not a place where you can really spread out.

Dining tip: In Hotel

The restaurent is 'asian-fusion' but it offers a good 'western-style' breakfast if you don't want to venture far. Not cheap, but not too expensive (around $12-15).

Downtown dapper

Great location to access downtown shopping and, not that far from the warf about a 5 min. walk (down hill there but uphill back) The hotel has an awesome look and is a trendy place to stay, if your 40 and under. I would definitly stay again. The combination of dark and bright rich colors are what makes this place cool for me. They also have a pillow menu, which was an added bonus since my girlfriend loves soft pillows and I like them firmer. The Red Fin resturuant next door leaves abit to be desired. There menu is fairly priced, but you better have a taste for next years food styles. Overall awesome experince.

Hotel Max 2009

A great place to relax between doing the touristy thing, and a WONDERFUL night's rest in a WONDERFUL bed, the Hotel Max is full of pleasant surprises. From Darth Fiddler(the hotel's decor is based on art and photographs from local artists) to the fancy BLT bagel for breakfast to the wonderfully attentive staff, I don't think I've ever had a more pleasant first-time experience at a hotel.
