Art-filled accommodations in downtown Seattle
The Hotel Max combines art and stylish boutique comfort, all within walking distance of Seattle's most famous attractions. Almost 400 works by 39 Seattle artists and photographers decorate rooms and public spaces. The Hotel Max takes advantage of its art niche to occasionally offer packages and deals tied to exhibits at the nearby Seattle Art Museum. The Hotel Max's restaurant, Redfin, focuses on Japanese specialties and serves breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner.
Highlights
  • Art work by local artists and photographers on display in the lobby, hallways and guest rooms
  • Aveda-brand bathroom amenities
  • Close to well-known Seattle restaurants, including Wild Ginger
  • Pet friendly (fees apply)
Rooms

Not surprisingly, each room at the Hotel Max sports an arty title. Solo art has a double bed and teak desk. Art of two beds rooms boast two double beds. Queen of art rooms sport a queen bed and artist king has king-size beds. Soothing tones of sage, charcoal gray and vegetal oranges decorate each room. All rooms have high thread-count linens and duvets, robes, coffee makers with Organa coffee and Steven Smith tea, Aveda bath amenities, a menu of pillow choices and a menu of spiritual inspiration suitable for almost any belief system.

Features

An art-filled lobby, guest rooms and hallways underscore the Hotel Max's dedication to art and Seattle-area artists and photographers. If the point is to create a serene environment, the Hotel Max follows up admirably with rooms done in calming hues. In-room tea accompanies in-room coffee and a spiritual menu promises inspiration for almost any faith or belief system. A whimsical "you got it" button on the telephone links guests with hotel services.

One Word: Extraordinary

This hotel is within walking distance (or a quick monorail/street-car/light rail ride) to many attractions, including Pike Place Market, Space Needle, Capitol Hill, Safeco and Qwest fields. The hotel is very modern and eclectic. Minimally decorated, so the focus is on the art. The beds are crazy comfortable, and if you don't like your pillow, you can call the front desk to change it out. The staff is willing to go above and beyond to satisfy the customer. The Asian Fusion restaurant in the lobby is tasty and moderately priced. Aveda bath/hair products +++

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If you're traveling in from SEA airport, you can use the free Sound Link shuttle to the Tukwila Intl Blvd station and catch the Sound Link Light Rail to the last stop: Westlake. It's about a 4 block walk to the hotel from there. Very quick, and cheaper than parking your car.

dynamite comes in small packages

The staff was pleasasnt and courteous. The "artiness" of the overall hotel was a nice change from the corporate blandness one has come to expect. Our only complaint was the size of the room, especially the shower. However, the bed was comfy and the pillow assortment (you can call down to the desk and staff will bring pillows to meet your needs, firm, soft, etc...) was a nice touch. Moreover, the location is great.

The good bad and insane

The staff were nice. The rooms small better for single traveler, small fitness center, and the insane was the $30.00 a day parking/valet parking fee and the $19.75 parking tax on top of that. Then there was the tipping valet on top of all the fees.

Great Unique Hotel

Great hotel with old and new mixed. Really enjoyed the artwork and homey feel in the room. We stayed in a king room, which was small, but comfortable for two people for one night. The bathroom was small with not a lot of space to put anything, but decorated nicely. Friendly staff and easy to find location made a place we plan to go back to.

Park on the street if you plan to be in and out and it's a weekend. $30 valet may not be worth it, even though it has in and out privileges.

Solid stay, but tiny bathrooms!

All in all we had a good stay with a couple minor drawbacks. The hotel is fun, a bit funky, and clean. The location is great -- we walked everywhere. The room was a bit small, but the biggest problem was the tiny bathroom. No more than one person can be in there at a time, and the shower is the size of a small closet (no bathtub). The only other issue I'd have with the hotel is value. For the same price it's probably not in the same league as some similarly appointed hotels (e.g. we could have been at the W or the Fairmount for roughly the same price, and I think other than location those would probably have been better options). It's close, though. The parking is probably the biggest scam -- saw some hotels are offering free parking to hybrids, and I wish Hotel Max would as well! The staff was great, very helpful and responsive to questions. The room was clean and odor-free (always our number one concern). The location is great -- about six easy blocks from the Pike's Place Market.

Hotel Max is in the thick of things

Hotel personnel were very helpful and friendly. Room looked to be recently remodeled. Very modern, clean, contemporary color scheme. Compared with my last trip to Seattle, this hotel was far superior. Room may be a little small for some.
