Great staff, very basic accommodations

This hotel has a very nice group of staff. They are helpful and interesting to chat with. The hotel itself is older and I was told will be remodeled quite soon. Our room was supposedly a non-smoking room but had clearly been smoked in as there were burned blankets from cigarettes, and an interesting smell - a mixture of old cigarette smoke and dog. I think we visited during a time when there were literally no other rooms available in Seattle or Kirkland, so this was one of their last rooms, and may not represent their best. What people say about sound is pretty accurate - we were on the bottom floor and though we didn't hear any traffic, we heard the maid roll the cart back and forth in the morning. There was no 'do not disturb' sign, so around 8am she knocked on the door until we answered. We had gotten in at 2am, so we really were not up at that time. If you are staying there, bring a piece of paper and attach your own do not disturb sign - we did that the following days and it was fine. Bring ear plugs and you will sleep much better. Also, I don't recommend you sleep with a light on - often I'll do that in an unknown place - keep a light on in the bathroom with the door slightly ajar so there's a tiny bit of light. In this case the bathroom fan is tied to the switch, so that makes is quite bright and affects one's sleep. I'd like to complement the staff. They were really nice and helpful. I got up late the first morning after they took the coffee back behind the desk, and they actually made a fresh pot so I could have some. Any time I had questions they were helpful, and when we checked out and it took us extra time to pack, they were flexible with us. The price was less than half what the other (sold out) hotels were, and though it is a bare-bones room (no shampoo, just body soap, no fridge, no microwave, no coffee maker), it did the job. There was plenty of parking, and it is very close to many areas such as downtown kirkland and the waterfront, though you have to drive. You can get to Seattle via 90, as the 520 is now a toll bridge. Beware of traffic as it gets bad on the 405, the staff can help with ideas for when to go and where you can get around it. All in all, I'm satisfied with my stay. It was an adventure, but it worked and cost about what it was going to cost for one night in another hotel - we stayed three nights. In retrospect, we probably could have asked them to clean our carpets, and that probably would have helped the smell. After the remodel this will probably be a great place to stay, but even now it's affordable and close enough to things - public transportation is great in Seattle and cheap. We would stay there again, though compared to a nicer place, if there's an option, you have to weigh out cost vs. details.

There are a bunch of interesting things to see around Seattle, Kirkland, Bellevue, and Redmond (as well as the other local areas). We didn't have nearly enough time for it all. See the obvious sights like the space needle and downtown Seattle, but also I'd suggest you experience the lake, a sunset, and just being in a beautiful place with history.

One star rating probably is accurate

Not your high upscale facility, but adequate, clean, and, for my purposes, a great location. LA Fitness is next door...nice for us having that membership. But the location is why I choose this facility as it is very close to 405 and therefore close to Kirkland, Bellevue, Seattle, Everett, or southern cities. Very spartan, but otherwise adequate.

My stay

The hotel was all right the night clirk we as helpfull as he could be. The room was at the end of the hall next to the stairs and faceing the freeway. The freeway noise did not bother me it was the frour men that were sitting out side haveing a little party. I had hoped that there would be some kind of breakfust or at lesat coffie. But no.

Basic,clean,good for a one night's stay.

Smooth check-in and check-out. Walls are thin, can hear guests next door. Otherwise, good value.

Fair room for the price in this location

requested a crib. Upon check-in I was told they didn't have any. Then the clerk remembered that a customer left one behind. Do not think that they should offer something the hotel does not have but was happy they had something.

I went to most of the tourist attractions in the greater Seattle area. Since I was on a weekly rate, they only cleaned the room twice a week. Also there was no free WI-FI in the rooms. Overall I would give it a favorable rating and recommend it to others. It was close to everything and the price was pretty reasonable. 2 thumbs up!!!

You would need a car rental to get around, but Seattle has a very good mass transit system. You could either use I-5 or I-405 to get around the area to visit most of the attractions Seattle has to offer.

So disappointed.

I was in Seattle for a doula (labor coach) workshop at Bastyr University. I chose Motel 6 because I'd stayed at other branches and they've always been clean and inexpensive. I got checked in and immediately when I walked into the room I was overwhelmed by the stench of cat pee and chemicals. It was horrible! I knew if I stayed, I wouldn't be able to get the smell out of my clothes. I asked for a new room, and the second room still smelled - not as bad as the first, but definitely not pleasant. There were also bugs in my room, and the bathroom shower tiles were very dirty. I didn't bother changing rooms again, because I was afraid every room they put me in would be awful. Instead, I bought a can of Febreeze and sprayed EVERYTHING down. I slept in my own blankets because the others smelled so badly. I was there for three nights when someone at the conference heard about the awful hotel and she and her husband graciously bought me a room at a different hotel for my last night there. The clerk at Motel 6 refused to give me a refund! I argued with her for almost 30 minutes, asking to see her manager, and she kept refusing, threatening to call the cops if I didn't leave! I told her I wasn't leaving without speaking to her manager and she finally gave in. He gave me the refund for the last night (all I wanted!) without arguing. This was a horrible experience and I would NOT recommend staying at this hotel.
