A golden stay at the Golden Eagle
Not fancy but I award the five stars on comfort, location and the fact that, by Stowe standards, it's as good a value for the dollar as you will find there. It has a nice open campus style layout, and is an easy walk to town. The room was reasonably spacious with a fireplace and comfortable beds. The breakfast was awesome!

In addition to the walking distance proximity to town to the right, a short turn to the left will take you to some nice restaurant options up the mountain road.

Better than 35 years ago !
When I lived in the New York area -- I stayed at the Golden Eagle when I would go to Stowe to play golf --the amenities and the grounds are maturing well and the ambience is even better than I remembered !

convenient walk to town
Short walk to town; 5 mile path accross the street for walking. The rooms were a bit dated and, presumably due to off season, smelled stale but was clean and staff was very pleasant. Didn't use the facilities due to one night stay. Stowe was great to wander about and the hotel was easy to find. Many destinations within 20 mi radius. Good value off season ($88); don't know what the rates are in summer, fall or winter.

The Frenchie
Good week-end escape to Vermont foliage.
We had reserved two rooms. We were offered to trade them for a large older cottage, called The White House. It was like a family home, with all private books, records, DVDs included! And the restaurant was close by. We really felt "at home". We tried to check out as The Obamas: the person at the desk smiled but charged us...

Wonderful variety of activities
Person who checked us in was very helpful. There are walking trails behind the resort--make sure to take a map with you, which they provide.

Nice little quaint room
This was a very pretty and nice resort. I would have liked to stayed a few more days. There were lots of things to do on the property itself like hiking, fishing, swimming. They had free coffee/tea and cookies in teh afternoon, which i thought was nice. The only thing negative was the guy working the front desk in the evening was acting like I was a nuisance when I asked for change. Also, one of the waiters (a man waiter) was very rude and discourteous. That is the only negative thing I have to say. Otherwise, for the price, this is a very nice place to stay.

Total Rip-Off
Cheap motel fronting as more luxurious resort. I have stayed at many places at Stowe, most of which were enjoyable. [...] The shower did not work properly, the bathroom had mold growing on the tiles and the beds were both hard as rocks. The heated pool was about 55 degrees and the hot tub looked like it had not be properly cleaned this winter. Lastly, when we tried to check in, we were forced to wait 15 minutes while a member of the staff finished a personal phone call. Overall a very bad experience. Pay a little more to stay at a better hotel or downgrade to a comparable 2 star resort at a better price.
