Heart of Middlebury
The Middlebury Inn, on the green in Middlebury, is the best location for visitors to the town and Middlebury College. The Inn has a lot of charm, we we enjoyed the daily afternoon tea. Previously, I had stayed in the older part of the Inn and found it to be delightfully funky and comfortable. This time I was in the modern annex out back, which is essentially a series of motel rooms. The windows look out on a blank wall and let in little light. The room was spacious and comfortable, though the sofa was pretty flat. For the price, I had hoped for a little more atmosphere.

Where is the line between old style Charm and just plain tired?
The Middlebury Inn is just about the only game in town if you want to be in downtown Middlebury. No doubt the location is fantastic and there is an overall New England colonial charm about the place. But I think much of the charm could be maintained, if not enhanced, by some updated bathrooms and a modern elevator.

Convenient, Pleasant & very Spacious!
We were in the area for a family get-together and the location of this inn was perfect for our needs since it's right on route 7. It's a very short, pleasant walk to the shops and restaurants in downtown Middlebury. We've stayed at the inn before and have always enjoyed it. The staff is very welcoming, helpful and efficient. We usually stay in the main building, but this time chose to stay in the annex because we were coming back to our room late at night and didn't want to have to go through the main lobby. We were able to park our car right outside our door. Our room was very spacious and clean and the beds were comfortable. We also enjoy the afternoon tea!

If you get there between 2:30-5:00, there is a wonderful afternoon tea set up in the lobby. Other than tea, there was lemonade, iced tea, scones, pastries and several types of cookies all very nicely displayed and elegant. Always a very nice treat we look forward to.

Never Again
Total Disaster!!
WE had a late arrival and showed up at 1 AM. First they couldn't get the digital keys made, then it turned out the room was not made up! So they tried to make keys for other (less premium) rooms but couldn't get the digital keys made again. Finally took us to a motel quality room but it was occupied (imagine breaking into a room at 2:30 am!!!) Finally they asked us to LEAVE...that's right...it's 3 am and they asked us to leave. They offered to send us to the Marriott at a slightly more expensive rate.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
skip staying at the Middlebury Inn...built in 1857, it looks every bit its age, except for the annex which is 1960's motel style...real loser!

Great Way to Start New Year
We stayed at the Middlebury Inn while visiting family members nearby. We've stayed there before and have always enjoyed it. The staff was all very welcoming and friendly and they upgraded our room because we were staying over New Year's Eve! It was very spaceous and homey and reminded us of a classy guest bedroom in someone's house. I particularly liked the fact that there were extra pillows and blankets and two wonderful white bathrobes for our use! There was a lovely, yummy afternoon tea set up in the lobby when we arrived that we also enjoyed. We had the buffet breakfast the next morning, and it was very good-although some of the food could have been warmer. The wait staff was very helpful and attentive. The location of the Inn is perfect, right in the heart of Middlebury. We went for a nice walk around town after breakfast. All in all, it was a very positive experience. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to any other travelers.

convenience and access to downtown
I have stayed at the Hotel before so knew what to expect. The Hotel is older and the heating is a little irregular. It was clean and the employees at the Hotel were all very friendly and helpful. On the occasions that I ate at the hotel the food was good and the service very good.
