Courtyard hotel with two restaurants near Colonial Williamsburg
The Williamsburg Hospitality House is across the street from the College of William and Mary. The colonial-inspired hotel attracts families visiting the school. Classic brick architecture blends in with Colonial Williamsburg. The rooms look textbook American, thanks to striped wallpaper, drapes with valances and rich wood furniture. Two intimate restaurants, including a garden bistro, add to the charm.

Highlights
  • Intimate hotel across from the College of William and Mary and two blocks from Colonial Williamsburg
  • Two restaurants
  • Free underground parking
  • Outdoor pool and fitness center
  • Meeting space for up to 400

Rooms
The 295 rooms echo Colonial Williamsburg style with periwinkle-toned floral bedding, striped wallpaper and elegant wood furniture. Windows look out to a brick courtyard landscaped with flowering trees, tables and a shaded garden. Standard amenities include color TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access for a fee.

Dining

There are two on-site restaurants at Williamsburg Hospitality House, 415 Grill and Papillon. Both of the restaurants achieve intimacy in an upscale casual setting. Diners enjoy the club ambiance at 415 Grill. The restaurant serves American classics such as crab cakes with the signature corn tartar sauce. Papillon is a brick-covered beauty illuminated by Parisian-like globe street lamps. The restaurant dishes up a seasonal breakfast buffet and bistro favorites in the garden.

Dark

The rooms are very dark so that without electric light one can barely see. They exchange all used towels every day. Why? I am not that dirty that my towels last only one day ... Also I don't need two new soaps pieces per day ... The air conditioning is running on full power. Why? I will not start sweating if its 60 degrees F. The people that are running this hotel should start to "think green".

Hospitality House...not so hospitable

We go to Williamsburg every year for a convention I have, and this year I decided to stay at the hotel where the events always are. Despite it being more convenient, it was definitely a mistake. Granted my husband and I aren't short, but the ceilings were literally right over our heads. The chair in the room was soiled, the carpet was frayed, and the bathroom had other people's hair all over. Also, we requested extra pillows (because the originals felt like cottage cheese inside), however they did not arrive until 1:00 am when we were asleep, so we were awoken by pounding at the door and then subsequent phone calls regarding picking up the pillows. The elevator was out on the lowest garage level so we had to hand carry all our luggage and bikes up to the room. All in all, pretty bad stay. We'll be at the Williamsburg Inn next year...

The 415 grill in the hotel actually was pretty tasty - we recommend the baked brie appetizer and the chicken quesadillas!

Disappointed

I have been a frequent visitor to Williamsburg over the past 4 years and had always heard favorable comments. This was the first occasion to stay here because of the lower rate and availability. Our arrival coincided with the check-in of a busload of guests. I was left with the impression that the hotel is unaccustomed to large groups. They had no special check-in for either the large group, or the individuals. The process took over 20 minutes and included navagating a lot of luggage and people all of the reception area. It appeared that the reception area was nicely appointed but on this day, very overcrowded. The underground parking was poorly designed with numerous support pillars and walls and narrow parking places. Directional arrows seemed illogical. Some ceiling were very low. The hallways were clean. The temperature in the elevator area on these two days seemed very cold. The rooms were nicely decorated and clean. The furnishings were nice and neat. The bathroom too was very clean. Unfortunately, when it was time to sleep, the room would not cool down. We turned the fan higher, but it became too loud. We turned the thermostat down, but it did not help. The result was a sleepless night for both us. The hotel is very conveniently located to Colonial WIlliamsburg and to the beautiful campus of William & Mary. My stay was not memorable and I will neither return nor recommend the hotel to others.

Great location but that is all

We stay here because of the location - basically on the William & Mary campus and walking distance from Colonial Williamsburg. This trip (our 5th time staying here) we had to call for toilet paper, they didn't fully replenish the towels. Parking is difficult -they have a maze of garages. The restaurant and bar for dinner is okay but service has consistently been very slow. They charge for internet access. You can't get a rollaway bed from them. Doubtful that we will stay here again.

Smelly

The room had a musty smell that stayed on my clothes. When I opened my suitcase when I got home, I mmediately smelled the room. There were hairs in/on the bathtub, on the shower ceiling, and on the bathroom floor. I put down towels to walk in there. The location was great; I loved the area and the convenience. The staff was friendly.

Cheap price but in need of updating

The outside of the hotel is very nice. The lobby and reception is also nice. However the rooms and bathrooms in the hotel rooms are in need of some serious updating. They are clean but just old. The pool in the hotel is also not that great, small and the water was cloudy. The staff was very nice and knowledgible about the area. If this hotel were to be updated it could be a very nice hotel. The structure is good but the rooms & bathrooms are in desperate need of updating. The cost per night was pretty low so I still think that it is a pretty good value. More of a place to sleep and not somewhere that you'd really want to hang out...

Attractive Hotel

The Williamsburg Hospitality House was a very beautiful hotel. The check-in was very quick, and the desk clerk efficient. The room was of ample size. The room was clean, however, the bathroom was not as clean as I would have liked. The bathroom did have two separate vanities, one of which was with the bathtub. The courtyard was very lovely. The restaurant on site-was excellent, and the staff very friendly. The food was very good. The location of the hotel to Colonial Williamsburg was a bit of a walk, which was ok, because I like walking. It was definitely within walking distance, though, maybe ten minutes.
