Courtyard hotel with two restaurants near Colonial Williamsburg
The Williamsburg Hospitality House is across the street from the College of William and Mary. The colonial-inspired hotel attracts families visiting the school. Classic brick architecture blends in with Colonial Williamsburg. The rooms look textbook American, thanks to striped wallpaper, drapes with valances and rich wood furniture. Two intimate restaurants, including a garden bistro, add to the charm.

Highlights
  • Intimate hotel across from the College of William and Mary and two blocks from Colonial Williamsburg
  • Two restaurants
  • Free underground parking
  • Outdoor pool and fitness center
  • Meeting space for up to 400

Rooms
The 295 rooms echo Colonial Williamsburg style with periwinkle-toned floral bedding, striped wallpaper and elegant wood furniture. Windows look out to a brick courtyard landscaped with flowering trees, tables and a shaded garden. Standard amenities include color TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access for a fee.

Dining

There are two on-site restaurants at Williamsburg Hospitality House, 415 Grill and Papillon. Both of the restaurants achieve intimacy in an upscale casual setting. Diners enjoy the club ambiance at 415 Grill. The restaurant serves American classics such as crab cakes with the signature corn tartar sauce. Papillon is a brick-covered beauty illuminated by Parisian-like globe street lamps. The restaurant dishes up a seasonal breakfast buffet and bistro favorites in the garden.

location location

We were in W'burg to visit William & Mary. It was very convenient but that's about it. Wifi was only free in the lobby--in the rooms, $10/day. Our shower had a sharp high pitch. Some of the plugs in the room didn't work so it wasn't easy to charge our computer. Beds were clean and comfortable.

Great Location and generally well kept

The hotel was generally well kept and up to date. We stayed there last year and also found it to be a good deal and in good shape. The only problem was that the bottom sheet on the bed was too small and it wouldn't stay wrapped around the mattress. In addition, the bed pad was small and also not attached so it would bunch up. Otherwise all was well.

Hospitality House Horror

The hotel room, though antiquated was satisfactory in presentation, but sorely lacked comfort. As for the cleanliness of the room, at first glance it was acceptable but a disturbing event changed my perception of that. The first night I arrived, I noticed a wine bottle outside of a particular room, which was fine since it had most likely been placed outside the room that night to be removed. Walking to the elevators the next morning, I noticed in passing a room service tray had joined the wine bottle. Still not a problem since it was now morning and would be removed later.. The concern came 2 days later when the full tray, with full glasses of orange juice, syrup, plates and a carafe of coffee etc had yet to be removed. I let the front desk know about its lack of removal, and figured it would be taken care of. That was a bit optimistic on my part, since when I left 2 days later the tray was still in the hall...full glasses of orange juice and all… upon check out I once again notified the front desk, to which the gentleman on duty seemed horrified that it hadn't been taken care of as was I.

Unbeatable location for price

The location was excellent! The staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. However the property needs a definite upgrade and renovation in everyway. However I would stay again because they corner the market on location and price.

very good hotel

Very pretty hotel. We have stayed there before and really enjoyed it. The food is always outstanding and the bed very comfy. However, upon check-in, I found I had 2 rooms reserved instead of one. One was not cancelled by [...]. I think the hotel was pretty empty, but they put us about as far from the main lobby as they could. Also, there was a constant cold flowing from the bathroom vent that made showering feel like we were camping!

A Wonderful Surprise !!

The four of us had been planning this trip for several months, and making the hotel reservations fell to me. I happened upon [...] in the process, noticed the low taxes-included price and, after a look-see of the property, made the reservations. It was in our price range and near enough to the center of colonial Williamsburg -- our only major criteria. What a wonderful surprise when we arrived at this hotel!! It was MUCH more upscale than the rate would have indicated. A lovely physical layout around a large courtyard, welcoming lobby with many seating areas and an inviting fireplace. Smiling, friendly, helpful, ready service - from everyone at the front desk, wait staff, diningroom help and maintenance folks. The rooms were large and pretty, beds comfortable, and outside/hall/next-door noise was nearly non-existent. The hotel has 2 dining rooms and offers room service, but no in-room microwave or refrigerator -- the only possible make-it-better-wish we could've had. I would return without hesitation and would recommend this property to fellow travellers. It is well located (although we didn't walk to "town"; we initially drove to the Visitors Center and launched ourselves from there. See also the Tavern Parking tip....) Richmond Road--in the other direction -- is quite literally "restaurant row" and quickly accessible from the hotel if you opt-out of in-house fare. We were more than pleased with our stay. Go there. Stay. Smile.

Parking at colonial Williamsburg -- Here's a tip. Drive your car along Francis street until you find the parking lot for the taverns. You can access Duke of Glouster Street easily from the rear entrance of the taverns and eliminate a LOT of approach-walking.
