Perfect Set-up

I rarely say this but this place was awesome. It's rooms have European themes. The decoration is superb and authentic. The added bonus is the Cafe Provencal for dinner. And the triple bonus is the Williamsburg Winery literally walking distance away with surprisingly some very good wines. And the Tavern for lunch. So if you plan things right you never leave. Plus you can get a massage at the hotel. I'm definitely coming back!

Nice weekend getaway

beautiful setting on the WIlliamsburg Winery property. Other than the winery tour there really is not anything to do. they do have very nice spa services and a good restaurant on property. the pool is not heated so time of year will impact use. the fireplace in the rooms is not allowed to be used unless temperature is below 50, which was a bummer. again, very nice stay. great for couples but not really for families.

Not going back

I'm a bit confused as to who has been reviewing this hotel. My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago and had a horrible experience. We booked this hotel because of the location, being on a vineyard, and the reviews but were both thoroughly disappointed. Below are the pro's and cons: Pros: Location-if you want to stay somewhere that is quiet and in the middle of nowhere, this is an ideal location Cons: The rooms are incredibly stuffy and windows cannot be opened in any room in the entire hotel. -Spiders, huge spiders, all over the hotel and the rooms (We weren't satisfied with our first room and moved to another to find the same issue). -Service: We couldn't find any one who worked there when we needed them. We went to the bar area upon checking in and couldn't find a bartender for a good 15 minutes. The "spa" which is actually a closet sized room with 2 beds, had no one working. There were also several offices with wide open doors and no employees. Finally, room service basically doesn't exist and, if you do want something, good luck getting it. It was just bad. -No cell phone service and our room phone didn't work -Robes and bedding are old, hard, and unpleasant Overall, the experience felt like a bad, scary, smelly movie. This is in no way a 4+ star hotel, in fact, we left the second night and had a much more enjoyable experience at the Holiday Inn Express that we ended up checking into.

Recommend to others

Was our second visit. Enjoyed our stay and will recommend it to others. We arrived late, after the time available for complimentary wine but staff provided us the opportunity to have wine anyway. It was a very welcoming and friendly experience.

Short overnight getaway

Fantastic hotel with unique motif of European history. Very comfortable, Room uniquely appointed and cozy. Staff is terrific. Check in quote easy. Food in Cafe Provençal was unbelievably great and dining was a unique pleasure. Co-located with a quaint, functioning winery. Location off the beaten path and a vehicle is a must, but for a unique and an upscale stay quite near Colonial Williamsburg, this place cannot be beat. We will definitely go there again. Cannot say enough about the food in the restaurant Cafe Provençal.

relaxing getaway

We stayed in "Ardennes". I have traveled in Europe to various star level hotels. The goal was completely met when the owner built this place only 9 years ago. Walking through the entire hotel you week find that each piece was hand selected and had a purpose. When I first walked through the hotel I thought it had been there for a very long time. Very classic, lodge, inn feel. Service was outstanding. Our room came with a continental breakfast...croissants imported from France, so flaky and so delicious. Quice that will now your mind. And great selection of tea and juice. I highly recommend a winery tour. You get free tickets to the largest winery in Virginia, and it's 200 steps from the hotel. The tour was fun, informational and tasty. 7 wine tastings included! Best sales pitch because I couldn't leave without some wine. Modestly priced as well ranging from 9-14 good wines, 18-24 great wines and $40-70 for reserve wines. My experience at the Wedmore was great. I will definitely return for another romantic weekend getaway.

In hotel dining is world class. Make a reservation for dinner before you check in. You will not be disappointed with dinner. The hotel has a garden where they grow their own organic produce to use with the restaurant and winery tavern.

Off the beaten track Winery

This is a beautiful property. The room was lovely, the staff could not have been nicer. Breakfast was simple but very good. My only complaint: the windows don't open!! It was a beautiful night (low 60's) and because our air conditioner wasn't working, the room got very stuffy and hot.

Great couples escape

Staff was great. Food was wonderful. We're from MD and found the crab cakes excellent! Plenty of things to do, or not do, around Willliamsburgh. Try to take the more expensive wine tour.
