Family-friendly hotel with outdoor activities on rolling woodland acres
The Historic Powhatan Plantation dates back to 1735 when a leading architect occupied the Manor House of this former plantation. Today, the hotel recognizes that colonial spirit with classic American accommodations and a blissful setting on 250-plus wooded acres. Active travelers make full use of the multiple recreational amenities on site, including trails, pools, basketball and tennis courts.

Highlights
  • Restored 1735 Manor House on site
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, hiking trails, tennis courts and a 19-hole mini golf course
  • Spacious accommodations with multiple bedrooms, balcony and loft
  • Full kitchens and washers and dryers
  • Fine dining at the Kitchen

Rooms
A variety of layouts accommodate even the largest of groups, with some options boasting as many as four bedrooms. The grounds may be historic, but rooms are decked out in newer furnishings -- four-poster beds and striped upholstery -- that showcase traditional American style. Most rooms have a fireplace. A full kitchen allows guests to save on dining expenses. Washers and dryers complete the residential feel.

Recreation

The Historic Powhatan Plantation is set on 256 rolling wooded acres. The resort brims with colonial charm, starting with the Powhatan Plantation's Manor House that was once the home of the area's leading architect Richard Taliaferro. Guests can spend considerable time outside on the multiple hiking trails, tennis, racquetball and basketball courts and the 19-hole mini golf course. Visitors can also enjoy the indoor and outdoor pools.

Love the area - but resort needs updating.

The staff is extremely pleasant. The grounds are very well maintained. It's quiet, with a great pool for the kids. What was wrong was the sizes of the bathrooms, and the dated accommodations; it's clear no major renovations have been undertaken since it's opening. Yes, we would stay there again, mostly due to the lovely grounds, and calm atmosphere. Would I buy into their resort? No....., I wouldn't spend that kind of money on accommodations that are so dated.

Good getaway place for families especially

Large complex conveniently located to newer shopping malls and Colonial Williamsburg, which is a fantastic place for visitors of all ages. The resort grounds are well appointed with ponds and tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, exercise room, and 2 on site restaurants. Condos are roomy, but a little bit dark for my tastes. Decor is showing signs of slight wear. Staff was responsive.

Colonial Williamsburg is a must see in this region. Wonderful visit for all ages. If you like gardens and interesting lectures, buy the pass. If you prefer evening entertainment, buy specific tickets instead. AARP and AAA are not accepted for discounts on tickets, though.

Great family getaway

Having an apartment for our vacation adds perfect balance to a getaway that includes a young child. The grounds were beautiful and allow opportunity to get outside, safely and comfortably to expend that extra energy. Inside was large enough to accomodate down time and attend to critter comforts. Time and Money very well spent.

Wow!

We had an excellent experience at this resort. We booked an upper level deluxe condo and were so pleasantly surprised, especially after reading other reviews. Our condo looked and smelled clean and fresh, the carpet looked new as did the paint. It was very large and was just perfect for our stay. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone, it was great!

Great secure place for the family

We stayed in a 2 bedroom upstairs condo. It was nicely furnished with attractive carpeting throughout. Had a lot of pans and appliances for the kitchen. Beds and pillows were comfortable. I like how the complex was spread out with an downstairs and upstairs condo which reduced the noise and made it easy to load and unload the car. The grounds were beautiful with lakes and picnic tables containing charcoal grill throughout. I felt secure being in a gated community. However it was a hike to Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg but not too bad. The only things I did not like were the small old TVs and having to say no to the sales pitch after check-in. Overall a real nice affordable place to stay with the family. Would definitely stay there again.

Awesome find

Only heard about this by watching undercover boss- after seeing the owner take such good care of his employees, I wanted to support a place like this- I'm glad I did- Great hotel, particularly for the price. Would definately go back.

Tired property but great value

Plenty of room in two bedroom suite. Many amenities, including dishwasher and washer/dryer. Place is in serious need of an update. Appliances and TV's were 1980's era, but fairly well maintained. We opted for the high-pressure timeshare presentation in exchange for deeply discounted Theme park tickets. Pretty fair trade, but can't see how they ever sell a single unit with the sketchy presentation. Best bet is to just stay using the online rates when available and no strings attached. Cheaper and nicer than any hotel in the area.
