Family Fun but still needs some help
Mom of 3 blue eye blondes Nov 29, 2009
I was not impressed at first but then it grew on me and my family. We did not know what was available to us until we asked ... the staff. Yes, there was a book to tell you all about the place. We were not staying that long enough to take the time to read everything, hint Big Book. The one problem that we did come across was the hot tubs were not working correctly in other words not heating up. They did however send someone out to try to fix it but by the time we came back to used it we were ready for bed and it still wasnt heating up correctly. The next day we had to check out. We did also rent two units we ask if they could put us together but they couldnt. However they did try to put us close as they could. See it has some good points and it has some bad points.

Impressed with suite amenities
Bill O Nov 19, 2009
A short drive from Historic Williamsburg and William & Mary College, this large but quiet spread out complex was the perfect ... location for a trouble free base of operations. We stayed in a two bedroom, two bath suite that included a dining room, living room and full kitchen. Everything was supplied down to a washer/dryer and laundry soap. The kitchen was fully supplied with pots, pans, dishes silverware and etc. All this at a[...] price that was lower than a tiny single room with a cramped bathroom as found in a major hotel chain.

Great Experience
Former Resident, Turned Tourist Oct 26, 2009
The location, service, and quality of the experience were all first rate. The rooms were a great size - at a great price. ... The only drawback was that the bathrooms were dated, but were well maintained, despite the 80s-style decor. Overall, a fantastic Williamsburg experience - I would definitely stay here again.

Ask about the Colonial Parkway. An entrance is just a few miles away and its a long, beautiful drive between Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg, complete with incredible sights of the York and James Rivers. It's a hidden treasure in the Williamsburg area that not too many tourists get to see.

Williamsburg Fall Weekend
KJ Oct 26, 2009
The room was very nice (spacious, clean, etc.). Staff was friendly and helpful. Hot tub heater in room was not working; staff ... fixed in a reasonable amount of time. We were asked once about sitting in for a time share and declined and that was the last and only time we were asked. The room did not have a DVD player as listed. It also does not state that maid service and linen service are not provided unless you pay extra. Resort was close to everything (short drive, not walking distance).

Nice set up for a getaway. Kitchen, living room, porch, and separate bedrooms allows for many possibilities. I used the ... time as a jumpstart to a new project. 5th Year in a Row of Good Times
George Oct 6, 2009
This was our 5th year staying at the Powhatan, and the first year in the older section of the resort. Our unit was pretty ... nice; everything except some dishes were clean. This place has a great setting with lots of amenities. I definitely recommend getting a room with a hot tub. We would definitely stay there again. Only down, but we already knew this, don't waste your time on the "1 hour" (not) timeshare bit - the "free vacation" you get isn't good for Thurs or Fri checkins and the gift cards halfway work, and the program is pure boiler room. Steer clear of that and all's good!

Powhatan Resort
World Traveler Oct 5, 2009
When checking in, there was a welcoming environment (even had cookies). They were friendly and helpful answering questions. ... The concierge had us sign up for what they called a "time share presentation" giving us an incentive to do so. The said it would only be an hour and a half. The presentation was actually a one on one sales pitch for 2 and a half hours going back and forth and making it very difficult to leave after trying several times. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. The suite had a full kitchen, living room, back porch area, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen table among a few other things. We were only there for 2 nights but I felt it was a good value for my money. The room was very outdated and desperately needed to be renovated but the surrounding area was beautiful, the resort had a guard gate and there were 2 card locks to get into our room, which made us feel safer. It is fairly close to everything and there is even a Target right nearby if you forget something you need.

Beautiful Getaway!!
The traveler Oct 2, 2009
I had read mixed reviews, but more towards the good side. I am so happy that I chose this place. I definitely plan on ... returning here. From the moment I started up the long drive I knew this was exactly what I was looking for. I did go "off seson", so it was quiet and more of an older crowd (very few children). The staff had me registered in a very short time. I went to my unit, walked up the stairs and was more than what I expected. I reserved a one bedroom. The unit was at the end of a cul-de-sac. My unit was upsta the irs, and it had a queen (very comfortable) in the master bedroom. I found the stairs and proceeded to find a light airy room (loft) with two twin beds. It had a small kitchen, completely supplied with everything I would need. A two burner stover, a micro-wave/convection oven. Servings for 4, washer/dryer. The Living room area was a TV with 3 chairs (no sofa) and there was a TV in the bedroom also. Also two baths. One had a shower the other a huge tub. The color schemes were all pastel yellows and greens and colonial style furniture. The carpeting was old but not dirty. All the necessary linens supplied and I found the bed to extremely comfortable. My unit was very quiet. I did not hear the people downstairs except when I first walked into a small foyer area. But as soon as I opened my door and went upstairs you heard nothing. I also felt very secure while there. The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. I give this place a very big thumbs up if your looking for a more quiet place. Everything is a short distance.

Also if anybody does go I highly recommend taking the ghost tour. It is a small fee and is held in the manor. The actor who was extremely knowledgable and retains his character so well that you almost feel like your back in the late 1700's!
