A camp-like setting for kids of all ages in the heart of Williamsburg
Wood-carved wolves stand like theme park figurines at the entrance of Great Wolf Lodge, a full-scale family resort in Williamsburg. This is not your average hotel. The Great Wolf Lodge’s 79,000-square-foot indoor waterpark has suspension bridges and water slides. The campy, kid-friendly rooms come equipped with rustic bunk beds and video game consoles.Highlights
- 79,000-square-foot indoor waterpark
- Conveniently located near I-64 and Colonial Williamsburg
- Scoops Kids Spa for children ages 4 to 12
- Multiple family amenities, from indoor rock climbing to a remote control car studio
- Family-friendly suites with bunk beds and sofa sleepers
Rooms
Great Wolf Lodge suites are popular with parents who seek extra space and design touches that will amuse the kids. Layouts vary depending on the room, but the Wolf Den, KidsKamp and KidsCabin suites are family favorites thanks to cave- or tent-themed bunk beds that reflect the lodge theme. Travelers can stretch their dining budget with in-room microwaves and coffee makers. Some rooms have fireplaces, lofts, patios or Jacuzzis.
Dining
Even children can find dishes to enjoy at the two Great Wolf Lodge restaurants: The Loose Moose Bar & Grill and the Bear Paw Sweets & Eats. The Loose Moose Bar & Grill invites robust appetites during the weekend buffet and daily breakfast and lunch services. The Bear Paw offers sweet finales with a menu of more than 20 types of fudge, ice cream and fresh-baked pastries.
Recreation
Families will giggle for hours at the 79,000-square-foot indoor water park on the property. A ride down one of the many water slides at the Great Wolf Lodge is a given. Expect a multitude of water buckets, sprays and a 1,000-gallon tipper that sits atop Fort Mackenzie. On dry land, kids can design their own remote control cars, get pampered in the Scoops Kids Spa, solve live sorcerer challenges during MagiQuest and finish off the day in their pajamas during story time by the Clock Tower.

Great Wolf
Overall we had a good time at GWL. We were there overnight so effectively had most of two days at the water park. This was a good amount of time. Could have been there longer but the kids got to go on their favorites a number of times, and left satisfied. We went off property for a couple of meals to save a few $ - there are a number of options nearby. Did not do the magiquest - that seems most suitable for a longer stay. I will point out that some of the big slides are a different experience at night. I would plan more time at the park at night next time. Only complaints are that the front desk is verrry slow and gets way backed up if you arrive like most of the world in early-mid afternoon, and tables and chairs in the park are scarce unless you are there first thing to claim one.

The main event!
We decided to stay @ the Great Wolf Lodge for my sons Birthday weekend visiting Colonial Williamsburg... The indoor water park was amazing! Our kids had a complete blast and so did we adults! Although the trip was meant to be for Colonial Williamsburg, Great Wolf Lodge became the main event! The room was big, quiet and clean with a balcony too!

FUN FUN FUN! We loved this place.
Very original, we had so much fun. We wanted to find somewhere close to Busch Gardens that was different. I went with 3 other people that are all in their late 20's. Most people there are families with children but adults can have fun too. I wish we had this place when we were kids. Great outdoor pool, duck pin bowling, indoor waterslides (kept open while raining outside), spa, good food, & it was easy to find a beer. It was a little pricier than a Holiday Inn, but you get what you pay for.

Good Times
Spent 2 days, 1 night at the hotel in March 2011. My 3 year old had plenty to do and was even doing the 'bigger' water slides by the end of it. (probably 3 dozen times in a row on the 2nd day) The wave pool was great too and the life guards are on the ball. Definitely a water park focused on younger kids but that was great with us. My only minor complaint was the bed was uncomfortable, or maybe it was the pillows. Staff was great and it was great that we could keep using the water park all day on the day we checked out at 11am! We plan on returning in Nov!

Go off season, parking lot was 'empty'! In March, at the most we waited 1-2 minutes in a line and the pools were not crowded at all.

BED BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a few days off, so took the kids to nearby Great Wolf Lodge Feb 18-20,2011. It was pricey, but we were anticipating a great trip, so we booked a Kids Cabin room at almost $400/night. My wife was working so she didn't go. When she mentioned our trip to a colleague, he said "I've heard they have a bed bug problem there". Now at these rates, we were expecting a first class experience, and (my mistake) I didn't research this issue. We arrived, checked in seamlessly and began to enjoy the facilities. The room was large and as described (we stayed in room 1050), just a little dark. There was a fairly loud humidifier in the room, which we turned off. the Waterpark was nice, but colder than the reported "84 degrees". Kids and I enjoyed the waterslides, especially the "Howlin' Tornado". Dinner choices were sparse. For room service you only have 4 options which are some combination of pizza or chicken tenders--that's it. Well, Pizza was fine so we went with it. My kids had a "scoops" spa package which was nice. We played Magiquest, did putt-putt golf, ate at the restaruant, had Starbucks, ice cream, and generally a good.Well, we were greeted with a rude surprise when we got home. My son and I that slept in the same bed woke up covered in itchy red bites. As a physician, I immediately knew these were Bed Bug bites. None of my other kids (thankfully) had bites, as they were in other beds. I know the problem is not in my home as my wife or I or any of my kids have never had this happen before. The bites are so bad that a full week had gone by and we are still putting steroid cream on and taking Benadryl.Of course I called the hotel and spoke to [...]. He seemed concerned and gave me the impression that this has never happened before. he said he would check the room and call me back. several hours later, he called back and said the room appeared "fine". In the meanwhile I checked on-line and this is far from an isolated incident. If you can't believe this, just google bed bugs at great wolf lodge and you'll see posts going back several years. No offer of compensation, no apology, nothing was made. I spent almost $2000 in 3 days and ended up coming home with Bug bites. My wife is on the one hand thankful she didn't go, and on the other disgusted about the bites. So, avoid room 1050 at all costs, and frankly, I won't ever go back to this particular Great Wolf Lodge. I am planning on calling the Health Inspector tomorrow, since they obviously don't want to admit a problem. I'm also going to post my experience on multiple sites so they get the message.

Great Waterpark
[...] the front desk stated that checkin time was 4 pm. So we had to wait in the lobby for an hour with children. The room was great except the water in the bath tub was not draining well. Overall, it is a great family get away. Children had a great time at the water park.

So much fun!
Two days of waterpark fun, hours and hours of magic questing, plenty of food and the room was so nice. Beds were soft and room was very large, loved the fireplace. It was fun to walk around in our PJ's in the evenings for story time and dessert at the Sweet Shop. The wrist band door key and preloaded credit card information was amazing and so convienient. We will be back!!!

Dining tip:
In Hotel
We wanted to eat a sit down meal so we tried the dinner buffet, food was okay but not worth $20 per adult and $10 for kids. They didn't refill the buffet often and the food looked baked under the heating lights. We did the pizza hut express the next day and decided the next time we would save the 87 dollars and spent 25. We also brought a ice chest with drinks and snacks, yogurts and fruit cups for breakfast. Poptarts too. They have everything you could want to eat and it is fun to indulge a bit but it is nice with kids and their wild appetites to have some bring from home food or you will spend more on food than the lodging or fun.
