good place

Our enjoyment of the location of this hotel was diminished somewhat by the Noisy People in the halls late at night and the lack of washcloths in the room (and the fact that the housekeeper took my personal washcloth when she cleaned the room). Restaurant is mediocre. But location to the bay is great.

My stay

The suite I stayed in, the beds were right in front of the main door, and the living room was in the back near the balcony. So in the morning around 7am, I heard kids screaming, doors slamming, people being extremely loud. At 9am the housekeeper came to the door, check out isn't until 11am so I have no idea why she came so early, I felt rushed, and very annoyed.

NO WAY am I am returning here

No way am I returning!!!!!! This hotel is definitely for FAMILIES with children who want an economical place to stay. I do not recommend this hotel to couples or those who want an average place to stay, or families who want a quiet get-a-way. If you are used to having down comforters, with stacked pillows and clean carpet, then skip this one. If you are going for a week with a bunch of kids and want a place to stay, then this is probably it. I did not sleep all night long, nor did my mother who I took as a vacation. There was noise in the hall all night long!!!! We checked out a day early due to the noise and they refunded our one night. The suites are definitely generous in size and could fit six easily. However, the carpeting is stained and the beds are not that fancy at all. I used an Orbitz deal and did not pay full price and received a standard suite, however, they all look the same and the picture of the bed from the website says it all. The venue was a bunch of families from all walks of life and some couples, but mostly families with kids. Next time I stay at the Marriott. I may spend more, but I know I will have quality.

On the beach, but worth it?

Confirmed balcony, not ours. Called ahead to see if kitchenette was stocked, told yes, nothing (Good thing I brought paper products). No way to dry wet clothing. Room service extremely pricey, not for children....BRING EVERYTHING THAT YOU THINK YOU MIGHT NEED!!!

Don't count on hotel amenities, bring everything that you might need, kind of takes away from going on vacation to a resort hotel!

Great for kids

This hotel could not be better for families. The staff is extremely helpful going as far as giving you hand written directions to where you want to go, the pool is great its both an indoor and outdoor pool with a "tunnel that joins the two, the beach is a private beach so it was never crowded the water is calm and it doesn't get very high unless you walk waaay out,it was up to my waist at the highest point, the restraunt was good just a little pricey. There is a grocery store across the street which was nice. The only thing that they could work on is there gift shop which was kind of bare when i looked at it.

A restraunt called HOT TUNA is across the street and is fantastic. The service is fast, the food is wonderful and the atmosphere is excellent. They even serve the kids food on frisbees that they can keep.

Great Deal!

We spent two nights in the VA Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center. The first night was spent as a couple and the second night we shared our room with some friends. Every room is a suite, so there is plenty of space. We stayed in a bayfront room, so our view was spectacular with a large balcony. There is a TV in the living room area, as well as in the bedroom. The bathroom is small and the water in the shower was hot and cold and our drain was slow. You can get internet service through Wayport or a roaming connection. Refrigerator and sink in the living area and the sofa is a pull-out. There was plenty of free parking, much of which is covered. This is great when it's hot out and you don't want to get into a steamy car. Many of the places near the boardwalk do not have parking and/or it's pay-to-park. The shuttle service will take you just about anywhere you want to go. They offered to take us all the way to the amphitheater. We're at the beach, so there are lots of kids running around (especially in the pool/spa areas). The elevators are extremely slow during regular hours, so expect to wait a bit. We typically took the stairs just to save time. The beach area is great - not very crowded, jet skis and kayaks available to rent, shallow/calm water with a sandbar so you can walk out about 100 yds. The sun sets over the water to the left. Right across the street is a Bloom grocery store, Wachovia, Rite-Aid, Chinese Restaurant, Subway, and Bar/Grill. This area is also hopping with nightlife and dining options, all within about a mile or so radius. Chick's Oyster Bar (food/drinks), CP Shuckers (drinks), Smokehouse Cooler (drinks/party), Hot Tuna (drinks, DJ, Karoake), Kokomo's (drinks/dancing/party), etc. Lots of good options.

Down Great Neck Road on the right about 2 miles is a breakfast place called Sunrise Cafe. It looks like a remodeled 7-11 but the menu and food are terrific.

Review of Virginia Beach Resort Hotel

Hot tub/jacuzzi was out of service during our stay and the beach was closed due to "bacteria" in the Chesapeake Bay ( E. Coli and other coliforms ). Indoor pool was evacuated due to lightening in one cloudbank at sea (no thunder, just lightening in a cloud bank, no rain). Bright red stains on the carpet in front of the bathroom. I immediately went to the front desk as soon as I entered the room, the first day, and saw the stains....I didn't want to pay for staining the carpet when the stains were already there. Pets not allowed. Save some $$$$, don't get the buffet breakfast (not a continental breakfast) at the hotel's restaurant (The Tradewinds). Maybe the a la carte selections would have been tastier. The pool there used to be a heated pool, it is no longer a heated pool (I guess because it's summer). Bayview room does not overlook the bay, you need a Bayfront room for that.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

None of the recreational offerrings are on site, I believe there is concierge service to the venues, but no tennis, golf or any other sport on site. It is a land-locked hotel.
