Good but not great
Vacationing Dad Oct 1, 2009
The hotel's location was great for touring downtown Norfolk, Viginia Beach, Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg. The first ... day we returned from seeing the sites our room wasn't cleaned. I had to call down to the front desk to get it serviced. My family and I left for 1/2 an hour and when we returned the room was mostly cleaned. After that they did clean the room but there was always something not done.

sooooo overrated!!!!!
Marine Mom Jul 24, 2009
I just didn't feel like I was at a four star hotel..the rooms really need a complete overhaul, carpet, wallpaper, and maybe a ... vending machine on the third floors,oh..outside lighting, was bad ,very dark at entrance ways and around grounds, highlight your garden, more flowers!keep pool open till at least nine,food..kinda felt I could never find any when I wanted it,went to seven-eleven like alot of other people.I also found the hallways and stairwells to be extremely stagnant and hot.To be fair I did find most of the staff friendly, helpful and ready with a smile and that is very important.

Beautiful, relaxing, and helpful staff
Little Dee Jul 14, 2009
We loved coming home after a long day of activities to a quiet, well kept, beautiful location, with staff who were friendly, ... helpful, and extremely competent. the grounds are very beautiful, so we enjoyed walking around the back of the hotel in the morning and at night to see the grounds, the incredible koi fish, and the swans. We also enjoyed playing tennis on their free use tennis courts for guests, and the fitness center is one of the few at hotels I have been to that actually has a lot of useful equipment. The hotel is close to the beaches and other attractions (such as Busch Gardens), but far enough away from the usual tourism crowds to allow for relaxation and privacy.

Went on the 4th of July weekend. Was about 20 minutes away from the beach but the hotel was quiet, clean and we pratically ... had the pool to ourselves. The staff was very friendly and for the price we paid for 4 nights, was well worth it.

Trip for business involving multiple visits in the area. Centrally located if going to VA Beach, Norfolk & Portsmouth (and ... burbs). Stay was like being in University dorm; a bit stale but grounds are well manicured. Looks like it would be a good place to go with family, however there were not many guests.

Beautiful grounds but service was MIA
AB Jun 9, 2009
Beautiful Grounds, However there was alot to be desired in the service. No one was jumping to help at anytime. I got to room ... at 9 pm and door was open to my room, No one around felt a little unsafe walking in a open dark room by ones self. My room ended up leaking with a large amount of rain from bad weather, so instead of moving me to a improved room as sort of a appology for the inconvinience I was moved to the room next to the ice machine. After packing my stuff once I was not about to ask for a different room, customer service should have known better. I am in a job that is customer driven and I would want to make this persons stay much better after having to come back to a room that was less then excellent. They offered us complimentary breakfast for our inconvinience, but I hate to say this I have had better free continental breakfast at a hotel for half the price. Then I had to make a large shipment from the hotel I had to bring in a number of large boxes and wheel them down to the business center with out a word of " can we help?" until I reached the business center then the lady that was helping with my shipment was excellent and apologized for no help with all my boxes. It was a major disappointment. I would never let such a beautiful place slip like that if I were the management.

The area was beautiful! When it wasn't raining, I was able to take a few peaceful walks around the hotel. I will be going ... back for business again next year and have already asked my husband and kids to join me. They will be content to just swim in the pool, play on the playscape and explore the grounds.

Lovely property, BUT....
Marla Dec 7, 2008
Pros: Better than average comfortable bed; large closet (I didn't need it, but it's there); clean rooms with cute decor; free ... in-room Internet access. The grounds, main building and lobby areas are lovely; each hotel building has its own little sitting-room area which mimics the main building, very nice. Cons: Although the property is less than 20 years old, it shows signs of wear, there was a sewage odor throughout the building; the ice machines are very loud and constantly noisy and need servicing; the walls between rooms are rather thin so that you can even hear normal conversational-volume voices, phones ringing, etc. in the room next door. About the area in general: every local restaurant and fast-food place I tried was less than average quality, very sub-par, including two eateries inside the hotel that I tried (those two were so disappointing that I decided not to even try the third one inside the hotel). I didn't have a decent meal the entire 6 days I was in town, with the exception that the quality at the local Starbucks stores was consistant and as good as any Starbucks anyplace. (Best food I had the whole week was in the Philadelphia airport where I waited for my connecting flight to go home.)
