Elevator was broken. Refridge was dirty.vendin machine was broken and took money. Pool was full of dirt and sheets made me and two other room mates itch. Tub bottom moved like a surf board. Towel rack was rusty and water was warm not hot at 6 am Sun morning. Would not reuse. Very disappointed.

Poor Choice
The beach was only a stroll away, and could be seen from the window of our room. The hotel had but one dark, small, slow elevator and 7 floors. Noise from the hotel's 1 story high motor located beach side was overwhelming. We booked a non-smoking room; yet our room smelled of cigarette smoke, contained an ash tray and had cigarette burns in the sofa. The maid service consisted only of dropping off threadbare towles. The beach was wonderful, and the weather was fine. We will never stay in the hotel again.

Great place
The Hotel is centrally located which was great! Room service was prompt. Great view of the ocean from the Veranda. The only down side to our stay at the Marjac is the amount of noise generated from the bars located across the street and both sides.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
There is lots of shopping in front of the hotel on each side. I believe roughly 30 blocks of shopping, dining..

Best deal going for oceanfront...
Stayed here 10 years ago when it was freshly renovated. This time it was not as impressive, simply because it needs some more attention. The down sides: Yes, the elevator is slow and small. The sofa bed was old, worn and stained. The up sides: It is always about 25% cheaper than ALL other oceanfront lodging. The rooms are spacious and you get a separate bedroom. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We loved [...] who was our housekeeper. For convenience you can't beat the Marjac for location. If you want luxury, and fluff, don't stay here - but if you want an economical way to stay oceanfront in a decent suite, this is a great place to do it. Met the maintenance man when we were leaving, and found that we had one of the last 4 sleep sofas that had not been upgraded. So, know that they are constantly changing and making it better.

Short walk from hotel
Found Lunasea Restaurant across the street. Great food, and on Tuesday I heard an amazing performer named Jesse Chong. If you like good music and don't mind the young people's club scene - check them out! We ate outside on the patio - it was great. The band didn't start until 10pm so we came back later.

great value and location
went for a week of r&r. I have stayed here several times as well as others on the beach and find for what you pay it is a great deal. The suite is very good size with a seperate bedroom and a nice kitchen. Nothing fancy but clean and the location is great. Walking distance to many attractions and eateries. The only drawback is the elevator is small and slow but you can't have everything at this price.

Meh...utilitarian shelter
I picked this hotel for my friends and I to stay while we attended a conference at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. I was able to walk the distance from the hotel to the convention center in about 15 minutes, so it wasn't too bad. This was also one of the cheapest hotels in the area that didn't have reviews online warning about bedbugs. None of my friends or I experienced any bites or anything the two nights we were there, so that is another obvious plus. However, this place is much closer to the quality and structure of a motel than a hotel. One member of our group was so disappointed in the appearance of the room that she chose to sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag. The pull-out couch is advertised as a queen, but is actually more like a small double- only one adult or two small children can fit on it. The beds in the separate room are nothing special, but they are firm and fairly easy to fall asleep on. The bathtub looked a little dirty upon our arrival, but they may have also been permanent stains. The kitchen area was useful and one of my friends used it to prepare all of her own food. The walkway between the hotel rooms is exposed to the outside, which lended to an unpleasant motel feel. Basically, I would definitely not stay here again. However, for those on a budget who don't need to spend too much time in the hotel, you will survive.

Weekend get away
The hotel staff was very friendly but I ordered a crib and when the maintanence man brought it he just handed me this protable crib. When I asked was he going to put it up, he told me that it was easy and that I could do it. Well needless to say that when it was time to put the baby to bed, the crib was not that easy to put together. We struggled with it and I finally was able to get it to work. We had requested that the maintenance man come back but he never did.
