Good place to stay when vacationing in DC - near train stn

Hotel is a bit isolated and the rooms are small. However, near DC Metro station (3 blocks) and near several restaurants. Also near shopping mall. Breakfast bar was very good selection - nice place to eat. Outdoor pool was nice. Rooms clean. Staff was very friendly. As a "home base" when touring DC - it was great for the price. Via the DC Metro can get to all major attractions in less than 1 hour.

Not bad business trip

Went to this Best Western primarily because of the rates. It was an OK hotel, clean but small room and a bit dirty A/C but overall clean enough. I liked it most because of how close to my work site it is. Also central to most Springfield stores, restaurants and mall.

average stay, bare minimal

i stayed in the Queen size 1bdrm. while everything seemed neat, i didnt feel like the room had been updated at all. the furniture was older and had some chips in the wood and stains parts of the chairs. i think they should consider investing in newer items for the room. other than that, i was satisfied with the stay and pleased with rate i got thru the site!

Pretty good for the price

One night stay. Room was comfortable. Breakfast was more than I expected, including hot items. Located next to Springfield Mall for shopping, otherwise rather out of the way. Nice staff at reception.

Just OK

We stayed at this hotel, frankly, for the price, but you get what you pay for! The PROs were the location and the breakfast food selection, which was included. The CONS: less than enthusiastic staff, room was clean, but shabby and small, the breakfast room was nicely laid out, but jammed (you had to squeeze past each other to get food items), Unfortunately, the fire alarm went off at around 6:30am (woke us up), for a short time, then again a half hour later! I called the front desk and the staffer said "yeah, I heard it, too, but don't know why it's going off. We're going to check it out"...hmmm! Next time, we'll spend a few more dollars and return to the Holiday Inn Express, across the highway. It never disappoints!

Great location

I had business in Springfield, VA. Location was perfect. Room was clean and comfortable, if somewhat spartan. It's not a 5-star, but for the price, you can't beat it.

Extremely Good

I spent two nights there, visiting my children. They loved the pool (which has a full-time lifeguard!). The breakfast was very good, also. They had self-made waffles, eggs and sausage, a multiple-choice coffee maker, juice, fruit, cereal, bagels and muffins. My only slight beef was the hours for the Metro shuttle. It closes at 12 noon. No exceptions, extensions. My children were late getting picked up, and I had to walk the mile to the Metro station in August heat, carrying two full bags of luggage. (My other choice would have been to pay $7 for a 1-mile cab ride). There are a few restaurants within walking distance, the most family-friendly ones being the Bob Evans across the highway, and the Silver Diner about a half mile away. The nearest 7-Eleven is about 6 blocks from the hotel. Doable, but not that convenient. All in all, I would come back to the hotel again.

Pleasant Stay

Hotel was decent and clean. Breakfast was good and the shuttle service was very convenient. The hotel definitely served it's purpose for a (2) day mini trip to explore Washington, DC.

Family Visiting DC

Made this our headquarters to visit DC. Breakfast was good but after three days you don't want to repeat the choices they have, Pool guy closes sometimes earlier without any advance notice, my son was very upset. I paid for an upgrade room with iPod dock and a flat TV. The iPod dock did not have plug cord and the remote for TV didn't work. When I called I was told I needed to wait until next morning, no maintenance guy works after 5:00pm. I insisted later I asked to be moved to a room where I can have a remote that works as well as iPod dock plugged in the wall. The front desk lady then go up with me in another room pick up the cord and the remote from there and then went to my room and set up everything. The first floor was full of smoking people and drinkers, one night one guy started sending kisses and whistles to my 14 year old daughter. The shuttle service works as advertised, very good and polite drivers. But the metro fares are really expensive not as what they announce in the official website. So be prepare to pay 4.50 per person out of rush hour, or 6.25 during those times if you want to go to downtown DC, like Smithsonian metro stop. They have a Chinese old lady working at the cafeteria, that reminds me those Philippine fellows in ship cruises, they made her work so hard, she does the job of at least three people, incredible! They have a couple of computers in the lobby with decent internet connection, if you want to use wireless in your room then good luck, the connection goes on and off, and it is super slow. AC is very loud I couldn't sleep unless I turned it off. The sink outside the bathroom wasn't a good idea for us, lots of trouble when you have a party of 4. Last day they did not leave toilet paper, we needed to go downstairs and asked for one. I guess you get what you paid for, so if you book this hotel good luck!
