Good Location

Beautiful hotel within walking distance of local attractions. Room was somewhat small, as to be expected at an older hotel. As such, the bed was smaller than we prefer, but still comfortable.

Nice, but

The amenities and cleanliness were very nice. Do not get a room on the side of the train tracks - noise throughout the night. The staff were adequate, but could have been friendlier and more conscientious.

Mold and stain

The Hotel is beautiful and historic. The dining room was like a step back into a very special time--when people appreciated the finer things and the band was great! I liked the Pub--fun atmosphere and good service(Gina). Walking to downtown was fun and convenient. The bed was very comfortable and the room layout was nice. On the other hand the carpet in the room (446) had a huge stain and the shower curtain had mold on it. I called the care line about this they said the would call me back and see what they could do. In about a half hour someone shoved a couple of Breakfast certifiates under the door--no knock --no call-- a lame response at best. Some stain remover and a new curtain was all that was needed. I didn't want anything free.

Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved staying in Hotel Roanoke. We only stayed one night as we were on our way home to Alexandria, Va. From Blowing Rock, N.C. The room was lovely and cozy and the entire hotel was well kept and grand. The breakfast was delicious with so many choices and the service was friendly. It was definitely worth the stop and I look forward to another stay.

Royal Treatment

We had fond memories of Hotel Roanoke arising from our nine years of living in the city. I had attended many functions there, had addressed banquets there, had enjoyed its trademark peanut soup and other items on its menu; so I knew what to expect. The hotel met our expectations. When we moved in, the room appeared small, but not cramped; we expected that of a hotel built in the early 20th century. The only flaw was a loose tile in the bathroom that caused my wife to slip slightly and jar her bad back. The hotel staff was solicitous and volunteered to move us to a new room. The new room turned out to be the opulent Governor's Suite, a two-bedroom, two-bath palace with a broad balcony overlooking the city from the 7th floor. Overall, our two-day stay was pleasant, even luxurious.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

If you haven't driven to the lighted star atop Mill Mountain, do so at night. The view is spectacular.
