Best hotel in Richmond par non

Was there to attend Board meetings around Richmond. I've stayed in Richmond over 20 times, and have used five other hotels. Nothing compares.

Sightseeing tip: In Hotel

Christmas decorations are fantastic - complete with a 30 foot Christmas tree in the lobby, wreaths, ribbons, Nativity scenes, etc. Felt like a vacation, not work.

Beautiful but poorly managed

The hotel property is beautiful - comparable to a Ritz Carlton. Check-in: desk clerk was polite and efficient. Room: clean, well stocked, beautiful. TJ's: ordered steak (outstanding), waitress was nice but asked "Is everything OK?" too many times (I'm nitpicking, I know). In the morning asked bellhop for directions to the hotel restaurant - he was rude and disrespectful (I have no idea why). Check-out: hotel tried to charge me for the stay again! Check-out clerk would not admit it was a mistake or apologize but claimed to reverse the charge. But would not give me a charge slip showing the reversal. The unauthorized charge to my Visa and the rude bellhop is enough for me to not recommend this hotel. Too bad because the hotel is historical and very elegant.

Beautiful historic hotel

Just stayed one night because of my schedule if time and budget had permitted it...gorgeous lobby and the public areas and every employee was ready to help whenever I walked up. The only two complaints I had was the mattress wasn't as comfortable as I was hoping it would be and the room was definitely showing its age--there were cracks in the plaster. All things considered they were minor flaws another person might not even notice. If I'm ever in Richmond again I'd be happy to stay there again. It's like stepping back in time.

Check out the Edgar Allen Poe Museum--it's got some great artifacts and the tour guide was very knowledgeable.

Richmond's finest - The Jefferson

My sister and I meet at The Jefferson every February to celebrate our birthdays. I can't think of a more beautiful hotel to meet and celebrate. The rooms are very nice and the beds are very comfortable - with turn down service in the evening! While it's very easy to get around town from such a central location, you don't need to leave. Everything you need is right here. Two great restaurants and a bar, a salon and spa. (Book a pedicure - you won't be dissappointed!) I'm already looking forward to returning next February.

You can easily walk to the annual Virginia Wine Expo from The Jefferson - even when you have to haul several bottles of this state's best wines back to your room!

The Jefferson Hotel Richmond ,VA

Service was exceptional. Staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. The capital area was beautiful. We went to tobacco road. The Food was excellent. Not too many out and about on the weekend. City seemed to be deserted. The canal walk was beautiful and immaculately clean, but again no people around, made us a little nervous. There were a lot of new residential buildings that were beautiful and empty on the canal and riverfront. Seems like more of a business area rather than a tourist area with the exception of the capital buildings and governors mansion. Food at the hotel was excellent. Went to the hot restaurant "the Boathouse". They didn"t take reservations. Went at 9:30pm and there still was a 2 hour wait. Went back to the hotel and ate at Lemaire a great 5 star restaurant with very reasonable prices.
