Family member at VCU Medical Center

We had a family member in VCU Medical Center. Very nice hotel and staff. Within walking distance of VCU. Nice restaurant. Very clean and friendly staff. Old charm of London. Comfy beds. Nice location for sight seeing. Would like to go back and do just that.

Excellent Hotel, Great Location

The Berkeley is right downtown, steps from the capital and numerous restaurants. The cobblestones right outside the hotel give it a very quaint feel. Check-in was quick, smooth, and friendly. We got a great deal using a coupon, making it around $85. The room is a nice size with a king bed, very comfortable. There were robes for post shower lounging. Free wifi was nice as this can be rare in boutique hotels. We had a second floor room and there was some street noise. It didn't bother us, but if you are sensitive to it, I'd ask for a higher room or away from the main road. This was a great stay and we would do it again.

Above expectations

Didn't expect much from the stay; great location for business and close to restaurants and sites. Would stay there again. (BTW-pets allowed, though we didn't bring any.)

Wonderful

I have stayed at the Berkeley before and it is my hotel of choice in downtown Richmond., It is located within walking distance of many wonderful restaurants and points of interest. It was another wonderful experience. Try the shrimp and grits or just the grits with breakfast in their restaurant -- you won't be sorry.

Great stay in downtown

Stayed here for a night on my way down south with my wife. Went to Taproom and Tobacco Resturant across the street. Taproom was awesome. Great beers and food. Hotel in convent location. 95 was literally 3 turns away from the hotel.

Great Staff in Historic Hotel

This is clearly a historic (old fashioned) place, which wouldn't normally be my choice, but this was a great location and the staff were super friendly.

Getaway

The hotel was perfectly situated in historic Shockoe Bottom. Lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Loved the coffee place across the street. So quaint. The furnishings were very art deco -- just lovely. Only problem was they didn't have a fitness facility -- you had to go to the YMCA and the hotel will provide a guest pass. But we went on Memorial Day so the Y was closed. Also they did not give free wifi which is weird in this day and age when wifi is practically a necessity. Front desk staff was very polite and helpful. It was a slow weekend and the nightingale lounge and restaurant seemed closed but maybe that was only because no one was eating there. Valet is $21 per day! To save, you can park on the street or use the parking garage across the street from hotel for $6 per day. Try the Urban Farmhouse coffeeshop across the street, The Tobacco bar across the street has good mojitos and live bands. We appreciated the nice little touches the hotel provided like a little note with tomorrow's weather, turn down service, little chocolates on the side table. All in all a good stay. Will recommend.

Bad reservation process

The room was advertised online as "two deluxe beds" as part of the identifying characteristics. I rented it on that basis as I was traveling with a male associate. When we checked in we were told that the room had a king bed and nothing could be done. I complained but was told that the type of bed is a "preference". The only " preference" on the application process was regarding smoking.. Since there was no issue regarding beds on the application, and the room was advertised as a "two deluxe beds" room, I assumed the room I was renting would have two rooms. It did not and it made for an awkward situation that negatively affected my experience. Otherwise, it is a nice hotel in other aspects, but it is a big "otherwise". Frustrating.
