Nice Hotel, Good Value, Great Location

Would recommend Tue, Dec 8, 2015
The Linden Row was good value, the location was outstanding and a good value. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Valet service is available, but street parking in limited, especially during the work week. It was beautiful historic project. There were only two complaints. Being on the first floor, one window pane was broken and let a draft in. The air conditioning units were outside of the window and we were be low street level. This didn't feel secure, I would suggest staying on the second floor.

Business Trip in Richmond

Would not recommend Mon, Nov 30, 2015
Hotel seemed nice at first...but then I saw a roach crawling out of the old heating unit in the bathroom. Then noticed that the bottom part of the bedding was badly ripped. The roach really kills it for me, though. Yuck.

Roomy and friendly Virginia style hotel

Would recommend Fri, May 8, 2015
The hotel is situated on a quiet street. The room is spacious and celling high - a true pleasure to stay, Even with elevators, there are a few steps to take to get to the room and yet that is to me part of the attraction of a Virginia style building. The staff is friendly and buffet breakfast adequate.

Nice old fashion down town type hotel

I was on a history vacation , and Richmond was on my bucket list. This hotel was perfect for that, as it gave me the feel of civil war Richmond. Great location, and I walked to all of my Richmond sites. Very charming hotel.

Charming but chilly

Would recommend Mon, Dec 29, 2014
This is a nice downtown location convenient to Shocko and VCU. A very interesting old set of row houses brought together to make an eclectic inn. Lots of different room options. Our suite was large, but it was noisy due to the heat pump running all night because of the cold temps outside. Like having one of those window heaters in a cheap hotel. Despite the drawn curtains, a light in the outside connecting balcony shined in our bedroom window all night. The staff was very warm and accommodating. shuttle to and from our restaurant was a nice touch. The The bed was comfortable and the bath was quite nice. Overall a good experience, but not that great a night's sleep. I'd recommend staying here in more moderate climates!

Dining

2* features and service for a 4* price

Would not recommend Sat, Nov 8, 2014
The building is at the quiet end of downtown. There's no onsite parking so valet parking is the only option. This is fine and not badly priced, but when I pass over the keys I expect the car to be securely parked immediately. This didn't happen and my car spent hours on the street where I parked it and I had to ask for it to be put away. Not good. The building itself is poorly maintained. The rooms are big, which is good, but there's no fridge. The finish is poor, we had the cables from the TV that were formerly duct taped to the wall hanging loose, and the carpet was jaded. The building is an odd design and has an interior veranda. This is fine unless your room is at the end of the veranda then the veranda 'smoking area' is outside your room; which is 'great' when your neighbours congregate there for a smoke and a joke in the early hours. Breakfast was really rather poor. Staff are all casually attired and this reflected in their general attitude. Broadly an unsatisfactory stay at the price charged. Also, the area itself is pretty much untroubled by restaurants or bars, particularly on a sunday, so think twice before you book here on a weekend.

Unique and historical, not the Ritz though.

Would recommend Wed, Oct 8, 2014
The pros: This hotel is one of a kind and if you appreciate an unusual experience, this is a good choice. The courtyard is a beautiful example of the kind of historical Virginia ambiance that I love dearly. Bricks, tall shade trees, a fountain bubbling...it's only a shame you can still hear the city traffic and sirens in the background. It's a little surreal actually. The bed was VERY comfortable. The staff were VERY nice. The rate I got was competitive for the location and the location was perfect for my needs. Cons: The fact that on the 3rd floor, although there is an elevator, it puts you on an outdoor walk and then you have to go down a small set of stairs (like 5 steps) and then up a similar little staircase to reach your room door. It's weird, and some complain about this with small kids, strollers, or the elderly or infirm...well, just try it with a very large, heavy piece of luggage late at night and not wanting to bang your bag against the steps and bother other guests. I found myself thinking, as I gazed over the balcony rail in the sweet morning sunshine at the beauty of the courtyard...I would stay here once in a while if I lived nearby and could just use a backpack for my stuff. But if I'm flying in with big luggage, it's just a pain. The room had a slightly musty smell (maybe it's unavoidable in a place that old) and there were some cosmetic flaws such as the fabric bottom of an easy chair was blown out and dangling, there were cracks and holes and minor damage in walls, a crack in the power outlet by the door and the carpet is pretty worn...I feel that the place could benefit from a little renovation TLC but the bathroom was pretty, very good amount of counter space, and the bed was just unbelievably comfy...so it's kinda so-so on the room's quality. I did not get breakfast (slept in late) but the coffee in my room was Wolfgang Puck coffee and it was good. So when I say I'd recommend the place to a friend, I would...but it would depend on the friend, and I'd have to explain a few caveats to them first...I'd probably stay again, but I might try a different room type than the main house 3rd floor one I got this time.

Dining

Galaxy Diner in Carytown isn't far off and it's really cool and has delicious food. Also, while I've never eaten there my local RVA buddies swear by Mama Zu as the most authentic Italian food anywhere but Italy. I mean to check it out on a future visit sometime.
