Not clean
We checked in (very chilly reception) and discovered there was hair on the bathroom floor, a large spider web in the corner of the room and the window opened up on to a building next door. No thank you, we checked out immediately. The receptionist was not particularly helpful or accomodating (he said he couldn't do anything about it and that it would take days to process a refund) but, to his credit, the manager called the next morning and the refund was issued.

Great Location, adequate accommodations
This was my second stay here for business in Richmond. Perfect downtown location so I could easily walk to my client office and lots of restaurants. Its the location that brought me back. Room/suite was huge with newer king bed and separate living room. Two nice big flat screen TVs, microwave and fridge. Free wifi. Staff was courteous and helpful. This is an older property and the modernization not quite up to current standards. Some sloppy maintenance and housekeeping issues were evident.

Beautiful Old Hotel
Beautiful old hotel right in the heart of downtown Richmond and right across the street from the capitol. The room was lovely! The hotel has a small coffee shop, but it is within walking distance of Shockhoe Slip where the dining is limitless. A great location and a great old hotel!

Comfortable, very spacious, a tad odd
Please note: I did not have experience with the hotel amenities and dining, but gave five stars there. I really debated between 3 and 4 stars for this hotel. We found our room to be incredibly spacious; where can you get a suite for such little money? The suite had a spacious bedroom, medium-sized bathroom and large living room with couch, two chairs, foot stool, desk, mini fridge, LCD TV (one in the bedroom as well) and lots of room for working, playing, or even entertaining. This place is definitely NOT a Microtel. The bed was very comfortable and noise was not an issue at all. The bathroom could have been cleaner -- rather typical mildew around the tub caulking and the floor could have used a better scrubbing. The place was not dirty per se, but not the cleanest either. The hotel staff were extremely friendly as well as responsive; valet parking was also very cheap and fast. The hotel is definitely in an historic building and the furnishings style just seemed odd for the building/architecture. We found the elevator to be quite cool and did not have any problems, but it was definitely not the jumbo one everyone is used to. We only stayed overnight (arrived 11pm, left 9am), so I am not sure about any of the hotel's other amenities. Overall, I would probably go back if I needed to stay downtown again and the price was still a good deal lower than others in the area. If the price were about the same as other hotels, I might want to try some other place for variety.

Would Stay Again:)
I arrived a bit late, but the staff was super friendly and helpful. Parking was a bit of an issue, but I managed to find a spot near by. The staff was warm and friendly. Even though it is an older hotel, it has been renovated, and it very comfortable and CLEAN. Directly across from the Capitol, so the view is incredible. Plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Would def stay here again!!
