The Tazewell Hotel and Suites brings a renaissance of style and exemplary service to downtown Norfolk. Here is an intimate hotel that captures the essence of small boutique hotels of Europe. The facado has been completely restored to its 1906 grandeur. The interior has been completely reconstruction ... room by room and floor by floor...bringing 21st century amenities to today's business and leisure traveler. Built in 1906, the Tazewell Hotel & Suites underwent a major renovation in 2000. The result is a premier seven story boutique hotel with old fashioned service, contemporary furnishings and design, and modern technology. At the Tazewell, what is old, is new again. The Tazewell Hotel offers an impeccable location in the heart of Downtown Norfolk's revitalization. Located in the heart of Norfolk's business, entertainment and dining district. The hotel was first constructed at the intersection of Tazewell and Granby Streets in 1906 for Norfolk's tri contennial celebration of the founding of jamestown that was held the following year. The hotel would become the first to introduce automatic elevators and air conditioning to the area, making it the modern marvel of its day. Following the renovations, the most reopened in April 2000. Today, it features stylish and comfortable rooms and suites with in-room Wi-Fi internet access, both amenities by Bath & Body Works, a stunning lobby and a space ideal for small meetings and seminars. The Tazewell is located in the heart of rejuvenated downtown Norfolk, a stone's throw away from Macarthur Center shopping mail, many exciting restaurants, the theater district and the USS Wisconsin, a World War-ll era battleship now berthed beside Half Moons Bay- Norfolk's new cruise terminal and Norfolk's tribute to the sea - Nauticus.

Stop over adequate

We used this hotel as a stop over before moving on to the beach. It is an older hotel with some very pretty accents although, some things need attention. The elevator is slow and soooo little, it feels like you are in a match box. The staff was very attentive and courteous. The parking is pretty pricey especially if there are 3 cars in your party and it is inconvenient to have one of the staff let you in the garage every time you need to go to your car. Other than those things, the hotel has it's own charm.

Mediocre

The staff was good, but the rooms were ok. The day we went there the AC unit had blown out and it was 95F outside. We were boiling inside the room and the only other alternative was another room where a small portable AC unit was given, which did not do any good due to the size of the room. Eventually we tried sleeping sweating all night. The rooms were ok and I feel it was too expensive for what is being offered. Regards, Vinod

Terrible, avoid at all costs

Hotel is falling apart. Our room didn't have AC or hot water. We were supposed to stay for four days but checked out after one. Avoid, do not book. Dirty.

Just OK

There location of this hotel is actually great. You're withing walking distance to a numerous amount of restaurants. The troll is also within walking distance. The room could actually use some updating as the bathroom faucet drips water no mater how good you think you turn off the faucet, there were cracks in the walls, no microwave or mini fridge. Not all of the outlets worked and being walked in on by the maid was a bit awkward. It does also kind of suck that someone from the front desk has to open up the door to the stairs every time you need to get to the parking lot. Speaking of that, this is the first hotel that I've ever had to pay for parking. It's $15/car and I think per day as well - such a bummer.

could be great. but it's not.

Beautiful old building with awesome old fashioned looking elevators. Walking distance to shops and restaurants and mall. Air conditioner was broken and shower curtain was moldy looking. Bathroom sink was not in the bathroom- kinda weird. If your looking for a place to stay for one night then ok but if you want a nice hotel with lots of amenities this is not for you. It's unfortunate because this place could be a gem.

so so

We went to visit our son stationed in Norfolk. This was close so we stayed two nights and had two rooms. The air conditioning in one room did not work even after they "fixed" it. The bathroom was moldy and the shower curtain was gross. The bathroom sink is outside the bathroom, weird. It's a great old building and with the right owner could be spectacular, it has old fashioned elevators and such. The location is also good as it is walking distance to shops, restaurants, mall etc... Would not stay here again.

Nice location

Great location; however, the room was very bright from the lights outside at night and there was not any kind of blackout window shade.

just a place to sleep

This is just a place to sleep. We stayed here when we attended family day with my son on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, We flew in to town on Tuesday afternoon, spent the day at the Wisconsin, had dinner at O'Malleys went to bed. Had to be to the ship at 6 am and did not get back til 9 pm. We were so exhausted we were thankful for a place to just catch a few hours of sleep before very early morning flight. The air conditioner was broken, the shower curtain was covered in mildew along the bottom and the love seat had holes in the arm. It is a shame as the building is really a neat old building with great architecture and it could be gorgeous with some updating. The location is pretty good as it close to the USS Missouri and the mall is right p the street. There are plenty of nice restaurants along the street, all walk-able. We really only slept here thank goodness because there is nothing else to do. No pool, no workout room, absolutely nothing for little kids to do for entertainment. Thankfully mine are 13 and 15 and do not require such things. Parking was a pain in the butt and expensive $15.00/day. The only amenity offered is free WI FI.

Beach Weekend

We stayed in the Tazewell for one night during a girls weekend at the beach. It was a close and easy drive to the beach (about 20 or 30 mins) located on a main street on the water in downtown Norfolk. Lots of dining and drinking establishments close by in a wide price range. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Free coffee and 10% off of smoothies at the smoothie shop downstairs.
