Nice hotel
We stayed at this hotel while visiting the beach. Although it was a little drive to the beach, it was a really nice hotel at an affordable price. Room service was really slow. We requested more towels and blankets and eventually had to go down and get them ourselves from the front desk after being told the items would be brought to us. The hotel pool and hot tub was closed on our second day there which was a bummer because we were really looking forward to using it! The complimentary breakfast was really good. I would stay at this hotel again but not for a beach visit (because of the drive). I was also expecting there to be more things to do being that the hotel was right next to ODU.

OK, but....
Hotel was having problems with hot water both days we were there. Staff was friendly in trying to fix it, but they ended up giving us a total of 2500 Marriott points as an apology. Also, beware of rooms on the front of the hotel as the noise from Hampton Avenue is pretty bad, and is made worse by people coming in and out of the sports bar, not to mention the fire station down the street. This hotel is clean; the breakfast is decent; and the location is great if you have business at ODU, but it is not quite up to the Marriott standard.

Short drive from hotel
Do not take the hotel's recommendation to go to O'Sullivan's Wharf, at least not if you want seafood. The seafood there was awful, not even remotely fresh. I should have known I was in for a bad experience when I asked the waitress for a recommendation and she suggested nachos. I gave her a second chance, and she said chicken wings!

Ups and Downs
We loved the front desk staff on the day we arrived at the hotel. The rooms were nice enough, but there was dried urine and a pubic hair on our toilet seat, which was disgusting. I would have complained, but we were staying only one night. There are few hotels within the immediate vicinity, though, which are as nice as this one. If you're staying at ODU, we would recommend it nonetheless.

The location was superb for attending the ODU orientation and then looking for apartments to situate our son who is transferring to the school.
