The area around the Hampton Inn® hotel in Norfolk-Naval Base is home to the US Atlantic Fleet and remains one of the largest Naval ports in the world. And as our name suggests, the base is just minutes from our hotel in Norfolk. Once you've watched the ships pull out, explored the Nauticus Maritime Museum and poked about the amazing lengths of the USS Wisconsin, don't miss the collection of our world-class art museum, the Chrysler Museum. Show your Monarch pride by stopping at Old Dominion University for the latest home game whether it’s Football in the fall or Basketball in the spring. For our young scholars, check out the ODU PREVIEW and orientation schedules. You might also consider taking a driving trip of Hampton Roads or catching a concert by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Our hotel is located less than 5 miles from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, EVMS, CHKD, and Bon Secours-DuPaul Medical Center. Other notable business within proximity include Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon, and SAIC. And if you want to get out on the water yourself, the Chesapeake Bay is just six miles from our hotel in Norfolk. Just make sure to yield right-of-way to those ships! Take an Old Time Photo or enjoy a delightful tandem bike ride along the famous Virginia Beach Oceanfront which is only a 30-minute drive. If you are looking for a day trip during your vacation, take a short 45-minute drive and visit the wonder and adventure of Busch Gardens Williamsburg. We think once you've explored Norfolk, you'll agree it's a Navy town with excellent culture and fun. services & amenitiesHere at the Hampton Inn Norfolk-Naval Base, we're passionate about taking good care of you. Great value for the $$

My daughter and I stayed for two nights while visiting Old Dominion University to register for classes. I look forward to staying there when we visit our daughter during her first year (and future years) of college. The room was clean and cozy. The breakfast was satisfying. We enjoyed a dip in the pool.

Very Convenient to Naval Base

I was in Norfolk visiting my boyfriend for the weekend. He is in the Navy so the location was excellent. It's not too far from shopping and dining as well as the interstate. The hotel was clean and nice but it would have been nice to at least have a minifridge to keep your drink in. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. The housekeeper forgot to leave clean washcloths so that was slightly inconvenient. Overall, for my needs, it was nice.

ONE GREAT ESTABLISHMENT

We had a great time. Clean everything. Excellent big breakfast...all free. Rates are extremely reasonable. Great employees who treat you as family members. All you ex-sailors..this is the place to arrange your re-union. Call [...]. She was very helpful. Thanks to [...], and others. May I add...Call Carey Transportation to help you to get on base to see your ship. They did the impossible.

Hotel was very nice.

Hotel was very clean. If you're wanting to stay somewhere to visit someone @ the Navy Base, this is perfect. 1/2 mile to Pier 5!!!! Nice pool and good breakfast. The only problem I had was w/ the hairdryer but we made it work.

Bang for your Buck

Stayed for the 4th of July weekend. It was only about a 25minute drive to VA Beach. The hotel front desk staff and breakfast crew were wonderful. One housekeeper in particular was unwilling to give us fresh towels on the morning of check out-my only complaint. All else was nice, location is very easy to get to.

a good hotel for a getaway

The stay was a leisure trip and we did just that. The weather (heat) prevented us from attending activities outside which we were looking forward to. The king bed was very nice - loved it. Room was nice, spacious and tidy and we were satisfied for the rate we paid. We were very surprised at the breakfast! Most of the time breakfast consist of danish/donut and a breakfast drink. They had a very good breakfast-waffles, eggs, sausage, etc. which saved money not to mention the time it takes to go out for breakfast when all we wanted to do was relax. I would use the hotel again if I couldn't find anything close to the Virginia Beach area - which was where we initially were trying to stay-but due to the lateness in booking we had to stay in Norfolk. We were only a hop, skip and a jump from area activities. Make sure to go to Captain George's which is a short distance from the hotel. My husband and I were pleased with hotel stay. The staff were very friendly and informative-called to see if we were satisfied with our room upon getting settled in-if we needed anything, etc.

Why I won't go back there

[...] The hotel would not let me get into my room for at least 2 hours. I had to sit in their lobby, and the staff made no effort to get a room for me before check-in time. Good hotels try to please guests who arrive early--this one did not.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There are no decent restaurants in the area. The best one was a Ruby Tuesday, which was marginally ok. All other eating establishments were fast food restaurants--McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc. The area around this hotel was very disappointing, in my opinion
