Disappointing

Somehow I was expecting something a little nicer, although the room wasn't bad. As others have said, the wireless is pretty slow. The TV was an old Zenith SDTV tube. The room didn't have a vanity mirror, which was a real negative for the two females. The "restaurant" is only open for the breakfast buffet and the "bar" was never open - I assume it is only for parties and receptions. The breakfast buffet was substandard - the scrambled eggs tasted like they were powdered and the pastry selection was dull. Most unforgivable was the coffee - I expect the coffee makers in the room to be bad but you have to be able to get decent coffee somewhere on the property. So maybe for the money it wasn't terrible but I'll be staying somewhere else if I'm in the area again.

Ants in room. Party above the rooms ... Keep everyone up all night. Front desk people didn't seem to care. They were either laughing and playing around. Or watching T.V.

Could use some work

I was here for a class and I had checked out of a hotel with sub par conditions and this hotel was acceptable by my travel budget. I had come here hoping to get a single bed but for some reason they had already booked my king size bed and gave me a double bed. The rates were quite pricey for the accomodations and the part of town. The WiFi is incredibly slow from a normal hotel standpoint... I think I am pulling down info at an average of 50 kB/s and uploading an average of 5kB/s. I don't know that this matters to anyone else but I have to access multiple programs for this class and some of the files needed are streaming audio teaching tools. I acutally had to cart my laptop to starbucks in order to get a decent streaming quality. The cleaning staff is accomodating and thorough. I haven't had a problem yet but I will be here for another 20 days or so unless I check out of this hotel as well. In my opinion there are cheaper places that are just as nice. This one is undeserving of a three star rating.

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

There are no "bars" in VA that I have heard. It's illegal to have just a bar. So to counteract this law the bars have to serve food but so far I have been blessed with great food and good beer. One place in particular is Brickhouse Pizza... it's small and the staff is quick and the food is good.

Great Staff, Slow WiFi

I've been camped out in my room since I've arrived working - partially because the WiFi is so slow it's taking a lot longer to get things wrapped up. The beds are clean and comfy, the staff are very accommodating and polite. The room is vary spacious for one and there are a bunch of restaurants that deliver.

Great Deal!

Rooms were clean and spacious; restaurant on premise which provided a complimentary "full" breakfast daily; large pool and computer access. Staff was courteous and helpful. From the exterior, a "motel look" -- I assumed I had made a mistake or wrong address, but the interior lobby and the room were a welcomed surprise. During our stay there were several events taking place in the conference center but in the ballroom a "QuinceaƱera" celebration was being held, the ballroom decorations and set-up were awesome, truly fit for a princess.

Good stay, clean hotel

Hotel and room were very clean with no odors. Pleasant staff at the front desk remembered me at checkout. I had read reviews complaining about shabby furnishings, but I saw none of that. I guess the large mahogany-like dresser and TV armoire might be dated, but mine were not ill-used. The heat/ac unit looked aged but was efficient. There were towels but no washclothes in the bathroom, but i had my own. When the maid service freshened my room, they gave me enough linens (including washclothes) for 4, and were a little too zealous -- they tossed out an empty 20 oz soda bottle on the desk which i had intended to refill with water. Glass glasses accompanied the lidded ice bucket. The fridge was 3' tall and clean inside. I didn't use the microwave.

Dining tip: In Hotel

The hot dishes on the breakfast buffet are a little different each morning and seem kind of institutional (like the mass quantity of scrambled eggs). But there are also make-your-own waffles, toast, cereal, donuts, and fruit, so it should accommodate everyone, regardless.

Great for the price.

We enjoyed our stay, primarily because of staff hospitality and the excellent hot breakfast. We arrived early and the staff had our room available at 11:30 for early check in. The restaurant the front desk recommended on the James River was perfect. The location was great for us to access all of the areas we visited. I would highly recommend some upgrade of the bathroom, however. The wallpaper was peeling and the floors were cracked. In addition, the bedding needs to be upgraded and replaced as all were old and the sheets need to be higher quality. Overall, however, we found it a pleasant place to stay.
