Great for the price
I just had one night there, but it was pretty pleasant experience for the exception of late night jumping kids over my head (I think they should seriously consider placing families with young kids on the first floor). Other than that I liked the hotel over all - clean, though modest, very close to the City Center. Pool and hot tub were working and clean, breakfast had quite a few choices - from freshly made waffles (that you prepare yourself) to different kinds of cereal, fresh fruit, coffee and juices.

Short and sweet getaway
We attended the Hampton Jazz Festival for two days. The hotel location was perfect as were the services and hotel personnel. Not only was the hotel reasonable in price but to top it off the weather was beautiful too, so we couldn't ask for more.

Sleep Inn & Suites
The lounge chair and otoman were stained; so much so that I did not use it. The work out area is lacking in equipment. The staffing of the 'Continental Breakfast' was grossly understaffed (nonexistant)and created very preventable issues.

OK, great price
This hotel is not dirty, but it does seem to be a little older; my shower was stained. It looked gross at first but when I realized it was just rust stains I was ok with that. The staff was mediocre. Bed was a little firm for my taste. The furniture and decorations look new, especially compared to the more permanent fixtures. I noticed a sign that was posted for the employees sticking off of the side of the check-in monitor in the lobby. It was encouraging the employees to sell rooms at full price and to sell out but not to go below $59... so now you know what the bottom line is if you're looking for a cheap hotel in Newport News. A great hotel to simply sleep/shower/move on for THAT price!!!

Family getaway week-end
Overall, really enjoyed this stay: our room was clean (and cleaning lady put extra soap/shampoo and towels when she saw we were traveling with kids), breakfast left us full, staff was friendly, there was an indoor pool and whirlpool, and price was budget friendly. Because it was so hot, and a holiday week-end, and graduation period, the hotel was packed. Unfortunately, there was only one elevator for all 3 floors. The pool was also packed... and the pool water not so clear. But there is a beach nearby, so if we really wanted to swim, we could have gone there too. Would recommend this hotel for family getaway.

Short drive from hotel
Hotel is located nearby main streets and highway, so everything is within short drive. Around Memorial day week-end, there is a fair by the Coliseum. Kids had fun, and on some rides, staff let parents go free... and more than once!!!

Very nice
The Sleep Inn was nice. The staff was very helpful. The hotel was in good condition. The pool looked very nice and relaxing. I was mad at myself for not having a bathing suit. Location was perfect. When I'm in Newport News again i will make sure to make Sleep Inn my choice hotel.

its okay
The hotel was nice, but felt like things were breaking down. At midnight an alarm went off for the elevator malfunctioning. We raced out of our room thinking it was a fire alarm. We like to have a pool at the hotel, but to our suprize we were there 2 nights while it was receiving maintenance. Our door had difficulties closing and it took all of our strength to open it again. As we were leaving they were very confused on check out and it seemed a little crazy.
