Great Getaway!

The Craddock Terry made a great overnight getaway for this local couple. The rooms are decorated in high-end detail, yet maintain that "old factory" feeling. Several great restaurants are within walking distance as are shops and Percival's Isle which is a great place to walk or take a bike ride. The bed was luscious and the bathroom was something you'd see on HGTV. The only (minor) negative was that they did not have wi-fi. The room was hard-wired for internet, but wi-fi would be more convenient.

Percival's Isle is a small island in the James River. It has been turned into a city park with a paved walking/biking path and several trails too. It's a great place for a relaxing stroll.

Very nice experience

Very nice hotel with a nice wood-fired pizza place, Waterstone, connected to the hotel in an adjacent building. The steak restaurant next door, Shoemaker's was closed that Sunday, so we ended up going to the Depot Grille. It was about a ten minute walk, but the weather was nice. Could easily drive there, if you choose. The hotel itself was very tastefully decorated and my wife, who really cares about these things, loved it. Me being a guy, didn't care as much about the foo-foo side of things, but the place was cool and the price was decent for a nice, non-chain place and it was convenient to 29 Business, which got us to and fro easily from Liberty U.

Nice dining options conveniently right next door at Shoemaker's or Waterstone. We had drinks at Waterstone and dinner at the Depot Grille, a short walk away. Very good.

Beautiful Room Great Food Great Service

My stay at the Craddock Terry was wonderful! The room was well maintained and the bathroom was beautiful. My favorite part of the stay was the bed.. it was perfect and cozy! There was an issue with noise level from the trains and customers coming and going from Shoemakers, but overall it was a pleasant stay.

Shoemakers is just a few steps (literally a flight of steps) away from the hotel and offers great food and service. The steamed lobster was exquisite!

Interesting Alternative for Lodging

The room was spacious and the redo interesting and the bathroom was almost perfect (needs better towel rack placement so you don't have to go around shower door to get towel). I worked at Craddock-Terry one summer in college so I was interested in the original marketing posters and recognized a couple of the shoes on display. The worst aspect was the jarring view of the worn out grain elevator out the window.

Very nice stay overall; some suggestions

Overall a very nice hotel, with personality. It's in a restored shoe factory. The room was very nicely sized. Bed was comfy overall. One of my pillowcases looked a bit ratty, either dirty or an ironing burn perhaps? I was not comfortable using it. Otherwise the room seemed quite clean. Breakfast: Guests request some simple breakfast items and they deliver it in an old fashioned shoe box to your room by 6:30. This was a nice touch. However, both the muffin and bagel I tried on different days seemed stale and tasteless. (Like refrigerated or frozen, maybe - not fresh.) Fresh fruit was appreciated. In-room coffee is great - single-serving pod machine. Dinner: Have tried both restaurants that are in the same complex as the hotel. Waterstones, on the ground floor, does not do room service, and beware of a long-ish wait. It has been named the best place in town to eat or something. NIce food and prices; great service. Overall service was friendly and nice. I asked for some special things at checkout and they were very accommodating. I would go back for sure.

Dining tip: In Hotel

If on a weekend night in particular, beware of potential long wait at Waterstone's, pizza place on ground floor of adjacent complex. You can do carry-out, so if the wait is unbearable, or you don't want to deal with crowds or noise, just put in your order, go back to your room, and check back 15-20 min later. Food is good and portions are generous.

Plush and relaxing

When I first walked into the lobby, I wished I had dressed up...it was so beautiful. This hotel was an old shoe factory, now a very up to date, trendy hotel with all the latest touches. The rooms were beautiful, with expensive linens and velvet furniture. I didn't want to leave my room. There are two restaurants connected to the hotel, a steak house and a brick oven pizza house. There also is a brewery serving fresh brew on tap. If you can't decide what to get, order the sampler of six beers and take the elevator back to your room! I had the greek pizza and it was perfect for lunch the next day as well. Warning: this hotel can spoil you for anything else, because once you have experienced the best there is, it is hard to pay for anything else. I loved this place and will return for sure. Ask for a room that faces the parking lot, as the trains do run at night and can blow their horns and wake you. I had an inside room and didn't hear a thing. If you like trains however, you might enjoy watching them rumble by. You can see the river on the track side, so it's what you can take. I highly recommend this as a destination.
