Valley Suites and Extended Stay

Upon arrival at the Valley Suites I found that even with a confirmation number there was no room waiting for me. They left a message that there was a problem but I was on the road when they left the message at my home offering a discount on a future visit. They had taken no initiative to find me alternate accommodation. I suggested that they check with The Village Inn. There was space but the weekly rate was not available for two days and I would have to pay the nightly rate for the two days. I indicated that Valley Suites should pay the difference for the first two nights. The manager had no authority to make any decisions and had to call the owner to do anything. Finally I was told that they would pay the difference. Two days later a received a check for $20 which was much less that the $75 difference plus the cost of meals I had to pay for due to not having access to a kitchenette. I would not recommend that anybody stays at the Valley Suites as a reservation with a confirmation number means nothing and they are neither honest nor have any integrity.

The proprietor was very helpful and friendly. We also had a great room rate considering it was family weekend at JMU - more than half off what others were paying at other hotels. She attributed it to the fact I found the room on the web. The room was clean except some of the sheets that were brought to us to make up the sofa bed had some hairs. The walls are paper thin so I heard the cackling of a woman next door while I was trying to fall asleep. So if you are a light sleeper this might not work for you. I never heard any street traffic.
