Great Hotel
Craig Nov 18, 2009
This hotel is easily accessible from HWY 29 and about 5 miles north of the UVA campus. The hotel has very nice facilities ... and great views from the bar and separate restaurant area. The fitness center, while small, is well equipped and very bright as it is surrounded by glass and has views of the surrounding trees. There is also a nice patio area with a gazebo that would be quite nice for a smaller wedding.

Likely one of the nicer hotels in town
Big Mac Oct 19, 2009
We were in town for UVA Parent's Weekend. A lot of the hotels in Charlottesville are pretty old. The Doubletree looked like ... one of the nicer places when viewing online. The lobby was clean and bright. While we didn't use the pool or fitness rooms, their seemed to be people enjoying those things quite often, and they looked very nice. The rooms were clean and updated. The bathroom had gotten a facelift, but the workmanship was good but not great. All in all, the stay more than met our needs and I would choose to stay there again. Close proximity to Sam's Club and Wal-Mart...like walking distance.

We stayed at the Doubletree while moving our daughter into her dorm as a first year student at the University of Virginia. ... The hotel was far enough off "grounds" that we weren't ensnared in university traffic. Wonderful facilities, beautiful pool, very friendly staff, very comfortable beds and close proximity to shopping and restaurants. And, GREAT chocolate chip cookies!

VERY Nice but Noisy
Maryland Weekend Visitor Aug 2, 2009
Hotel is located north of town making it easy to get to Downtown, UVA, and other locations, without being in the "thick of ... it". I found the hotel to be very well appointed and very much in the class of Hilton Hotels. Very much like the Hampton Inns I have stayed at. I took a long drive towards the mountains and came back through the Wintergreen Ski resort on quaint backroads. The hotel was hosting several events on that weekend and the parking lot was impossible not just in the evening, but all day long. I found the room to be VERY nice and very well appointed. Beds very comfortable with nice comforter and lots of bed pillows.

I left my iPod in the fittness room and got it back the next day when I went to the lost and found at the desk! Slept well ... and even took a two-hour nap during the day in this non-smoking room. The floor and rooms that were in the smoking section were below average, but once I changed rooms and decided to smoke outside, the non-smoking room was much better!

Family Friendly
MISOU Jun 8, 2007
The Double Tree is one of the best facilities in the Charlottesville area. But if you want to be in the center of the action ... (i.e., downtown) then it is not for you. It is convenient to the airport. The building is beginning to show wear-and-tear but is still charming. The staff is always wonderful, that's why I stay there. It offers all the amenities and is business-friendly; but can be very crowded and noisy if there is a kids-oriented event in the area. It has a good restaurant on the premises, so that makes it convenient. The layout of the building makes a single, female traveler feels safe...entering and exiting requires passing through the main lobby, so that helps reduce potential unauthorized traffic.
