Do Not Eat or Stay There!!

The food was strange tasting. Your meal starts off with a shot glass of raspberry-cherry warm syrup (tastes just like warm cough syrup - I'm not kidding - really). It was the most horrible thing I have ever drank in my life. Followed by Lobster Bisque tasted so bad I almost became ill at the table and it was a very unattractive light brown color . . . visually it was unappealing. My filet steak was tender but tasteless. Creme brulee was excellent. After dinner I returned to my Boarshead Inn hotel room and felt ill on my stomach for several hours. My hotel room was dirty, out-dated and needed a facelift. This place is SO overrated and expensive. I suggest staying at a chain hotel and eating at the Outback Steakhouse. P.S.-This is NOT gourmet food just horrible food.

ok but flawed

Arrived at 6 pm and our room wasn't ready. They gave us free drink coupons (with which we enjoyed a couple of $14 cocktails), and the front-desk clerk brought our keys and registration into to our table about 15 minutes later. Our room was very pleasant but ready for a spruce-up, as well as the hallways. TV was old. Mandatory resort fee - always irritating (I don't believe this was disclosed). But it did give us access to a very nice fitness facility. One locker room was under construction, so no guest lockers or any place to store valuables. The public areas have a nice, old-world hunt-club feel to them. The golf course looked very nice and is probably the only real good reason for staying here

Gracious living!

We traveled to Charlottesville to hear a concert performed in a lovely old hall on the UVA campus. Our stay at the Boars Head Inn was very very comfortable. This is a large hotel, located in a lovely setting, with a small lake, and lovely vistas. There is golf, a large fitness center, and twenty-something tennis courts, so the summer time must be bustling. We were there in March and noted how comfortable every thing is. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. There is a small lounge area where we had tea and coffee in the late afternoon, along with pastries, which had been laid out for anyone who came by. Lovely antique furniture is seen throughout all public rooms. We chose to eat our dinner in the bar area, where good food was served, but you may also chose to dine in a more formal dining room, where there is a more elaborate menu. And, last but not least, you could not ask for better, friendlier service. The only glitch occurred at registration, when our online reservation had been filed under the wrong name, but when I showed proof of my reservation. a proper apology was offered.

Disappointment with capital letters!!

This hotel needs to be updated BADLY. We paid extra to stay in the older "quaint" section of the Inn. There were so many allergens in the room that we couldn't spend much time in the room and woke up each morning with stuffy heads that cleared up as soon as we went outside. No one, and I do mean no staff member seemed to enjoy their job. Why would someone take a job in a service industry if they didn't want to at least smile long enough to get someone to spend money at their place of employ? For a spa setting the linens were very dry and scratchy. Not comfortable at all. The pillows were OLD and flat. The towels were large but again very dry and hard as if they had been hung out in the sun for a few days. Those nice comfy robes they promise in each room? Bring your own. The robes in our room looked like they'd been wadded up and left to dry in a heap and didn't smell much better and again, stiff and scratchy. The spa was OK but no one tripped over themself to impress us. [...]did a great facial but other than that the massages we had were "meh" at best. We would have bought some of the spa products if someone had wanted to sell them to us but none of the spa staff was interested in interacting with us.We tried to meet friends for drinks in the Bistro to celebrate my birthday but after waiting ample time, we never got service so we went off-site with our friends. I spoke to the front desk clerk about this on check-out and she cheerfully deducted $50 from our bill. Sounded like it's a normal complaint but this is not how I wanted to spend a special birthday.Good luck if you choose to stay here.

Southern Charm

We arrived late and our reservation was in order and the check in was very pleasant and quick. We left late the next morning after having a great breakfast with wonderful service. We walked the grounds and visited the golf proshop. We plan to visit again when we have more time to take advantage of everything offered.

The directions on mapquest were incorrect. We used our telenav navigator to find exact location. The Inn could use more signage on the main road.
