Comfort Inn Ballston

Edwin at the service desk is outstanding. The breakfast is very good. The room was clean and the hotel washes the blanket along with the sheets. A shuttle took us to the Metro.

At I-66 interchange, 10 minutes from downtown/monument areas of DC without traffic,, ie, weekends, nights, before 7:30 am, 25 minutes from DuPont Circle in traiffic, free bus to Metro stop or 12 min walk, many decent eateries of all prices in walking distance, very good breakfast, eggs, sausage, waffles, donuts, fresh fruit,etc etc., clean eating area, no smoking facility but my room had been smoked in, but too tired to complain, was ok after fan turned on. If you arirve in DC by car, or need one there, this is ideal. Easy drive from Regan or Dulles, 1.75 hours from BWI in evening rush hour, 50 minutes on as Sat morning. Good wireless internet in the room.

This hotel is a reasonable cost-effective option. It was quiet, reasonably well-maintained, serves a full breakfast (though it is identical every time and they ran out of common items like half and half). The wireless is a bit slow but free. The rooms are clean, I did not experience any bed bugs, but the carpets and bedspreads could stand to be replaced--their age and dinginess unduly give the impression of the rooms being less fresh and clean than they are. Biggest complaint was the somewhat ineffectual cooling--the wall mount controls are useless so the maintenance guy switched it back to manual--the fan however is too weak to really put out the volume necessary to keep the room very cool. It wasn't terribly uncomfortable but in the summer you'll need to sleep with just the sheets.

The best thing Comfort Inn Ballston has going for it is the price--and the free parking. It's also easy access from I-66 and within walking distance to the Ballston Metro. (Access it thru the Fairfax Ave entrance.) However, there are several hotels closer to the Metro. The hotel room is a good size for DC but the interior is pretty average. Maybe even below average, depending on the room. The carpet in my room had a big iron burn on the floor. The beds were extremely firm--rock like, even. I also spotted some mold in the shower. Don't expect a HD flatscreen or wifi either. (Bring an ethernet cable for the free high-speed internet, btw.) The hotel does have HBO, but the TV intermittently picked up QVC on all channels late at night. Kind of ruined the continuity of Game of Thrones. ;) On the plus side, the staff is friendly. There a shuttle that runs to the Metro, and breakfast is free.

VERY clean, friendly personnel, safe/nice neighborhood, VERY good rate (even on the week-end) Free parking under cover, or in the courtyard area was a +. We enjoyed the easy walking access to the Metro, as we went in and out of WN.,DC each day. Good breakfast choices plus banana and apples available.

We went to Marymount College. It is in a great location from school.

It's a great hotel with a nice price. Close to Metro and NSF.

The hotel is fine for the price, given that the other hotels nearby are twice the price. My room was fairly large with two kind size beds and a 25" TV and free wireless internet. The bathroom was basic but fine. The breakfast was quite acceptable ---fresh waffles, boiled eggs, cereals, toast, juice. Recommended for the budget traveler, who is willing to do the 10-min walk to Ballston Metro.
