My Nirvana

I was there to visit my granduncle and his family. My room, the view, and staff were perfect. The front desk staff was super friendly and went out of his way to make me feel welcome and comfortable. I wish I had stayed longer. There is always a next time.

Modern, stylish, with friendly, helpful staff

A nice hotel in a nice location. Modern and up-to-date accommodations. Walls are a little thin, as noisy neighbors were quite audible. Staff was very nice and helpful.

Unbeatable location for the price.

Great, convenient location for touring the D.C. and Northern Virginia Area. Very easy parking throughout Alexandria and easy acess to all hignways made it a great taking-off point each day by car; and the two block proximity to the Metro made it very easy to also get around all of D.C.. The Lorien's Restaurant was also very, very good (nice courtyard dining, too); and the daily free wine-tasting 'happy hours' were very welcome.

Nice Hotel But............

My wife and I stayed there 3 days while touring DC. Great location for easy access to Metro Train station. Hotel was very nice but the room we had was on the small side. Also, the hotel did not have a sundries store and we were forced to use the mini bar or room service for snacks or bottled water. Breakfast at the hotel was $50.

Great Experience

The hotel was great. It was extremely clean. I would come back with family, for business, or leisure. Walking distance to everything. Only drawback was the bathroom door- doesn't give you much privacy.

Business and Pleasure

The hotel was a little noisy. The sliding glass doors leading into the bathroom did not offer much privacy. However the hotel is beautiful. The staff is great and very helpful. Real nice place to stay.

Sleek decor

Maybe it's because I'm based in NYC and hotels like this are pretty common, but the decor was the best part about this hotel. Customer service still seems to be the number one issue with so many businesses and The Lorien Hotel and Spa should address this matter carefully. The staff, while outwardly friendly, were not particularly helpful. I called downstairs because I forgot an item and there was a list of items they would provide if you forgot them. The person who answered the phone acted as though she didn't know what I was talking about until I specifically stated the item I was hoping they could provide. That was awkward. I asked for a wake up call when I checked in -- there was no wake up call. They just forgot, even though I asked in person at check in and the person assured me it would be done. Fortunately I set an alarm just in case. I was checking in a little late and so called ahead to let them know that, I was told it was a good thing I called because they might have given away the room if I waited too long. That was odd to tell me. The restaurant breakfast options were not the greatest and the staff was not particularly attentive, although when the food arrived it was delicious. Finally, maybe it's because I checked in late but the room I was in was near to a mechanical device (perhaps the main a/c unit) and so I kept hearing it turn on and off all night. When asked if everything was okay with my stay at checkout and I mentioned that, the person's response was "hmmmm" without any more. That was unsatisfactory at best. There should at least be standard responses to customer concerns/complaints if you're going to ask that question.[...]I'm not sure I would go back, but if you're looking for lovely upscale surroundings, it fits the ticket.
