Average

The location was great; however, the reason I booked is b/c complimentary shuttle was promoted. However, that was the case if I had a cute southern accent. They did this for others in the hotel. They would not accomodate me at all and I had to walk back to the hotel. Next time I will pay more to get more. Plus the last night teenagers took over hotel. I know there is only so much one can do...but they were so loud...and for a crack of dawn wake up call...not a fun night.

Good for Business or Leisure

The location is excellent, centrally located in beautiful historic Old Town Alexandria, just a few minutes to National Airport, downtown Washington, DC and the National Harbor in Maryland. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby. The hotel was very clean and the rooms modern and comfortable with flat-screen TVs and nice bedding. Plenty of parking. Great value!

Met the need...

My wife and I were celebrating her 40th birthday for the weekend. We liked the location of the hotel being close to the waterfront, D.C. and even had a grocery store across the street. The area was quiet too which was nice. As far as the room is concerned...the holes that fitted the fire sprinklers were cut too big and the door entrance need to be sound proofed better. The shower curtain needed to be replaced and the towels were hard. A microwave would have really topped off the amenities for the room. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to friends.

Very clean, good location but rude staff

The hotel was in a great location across the street to a grocery store but I felt as if we lived at Reagan National airport due to the hotel shuttle pick up and drop offs. Shuttle from the hotel to the airport picked up every :05 and :35 on the hour and would pick up at the airport every :15 and :45. I would have preferred to be within walking distance to the metro instead of having to wait for the shuttle each time. The room was very spacious and accommodating but beds were very hard and woke up in pain each morning. Hotel has a very nice bar and we were provided excellent service by [...] the second night we were there but on the forth night, the other male bartender was very rude and cursed at us after we left no tip on our credit card because we were leaving a cash tip(as we always do). I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Alexandria the year before on Eisenhower and service was very good and was in walking distance to the metro. This hotel did not have a pool but I would definitely choose that one instead of this Holiday Inn if I would choose to go back.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Buying groceries at the grocery store across the street on the day of arrival saved us quite a bit of money during out stay. Not having to eat out each meal was very budget friendly.

A Very Average Hotel

Hotel was average. No microwave, no refrigerator, had to change out the coffee pot twice due to mismatches between carafe and unit which resulted in coffee all over the counter. Rubber safety mat in tub halfway detached. Indoor pool out of service. Expensive parking in a cramped poorly designed underground parking area. We will be very unlikely to ever stay at this hotel again.

Nice convenient location

This hotel was in a perfect location for our get-a-way to Washington, DC. The room was perfectly comfortable and had the necessities. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room. It was a walkable distance to the Metro and shopping areas in Alexandria. The pool was not open, we had looked forward to using it. I will hopefully stay there again in the future.

Perfect Trip

Stayed in this hotel while we toured D.C. and it was PERFECT!!! Shuttle service brings you to the metro station, as well as into Old Town Alexandria which was another pleasant surprise. In downtown there are great restaurants and some quaint shops; everything was very fairly priced and we can't wait to go back again next year. This portion of our trip went so well that my boyfriend and I want to make it an annual one. Can't wait to visit this hotel again. Also there is a supermarket across the street which, for anyone who travels and gets sick of restaurant food after a while, this is perfect!! The hotel provided a mini fridge and microwave so its extra convenient.

Hotel Shuttle: it will take you straight to metro station in the airport, which was about a five minute drive. It also takes you into the town area. Runs at convenient times and the front desk staff was always more than willing to let us know what time that is.

Easy access to sights and transportation

I saw the sights: Native American History Museum and Mt. Vernon. The museum was phenomenal - not just "the white devil killed the Indians." The best part was the 3rd floor: "Who We Are." Mt. Vernon needs no explanation. Museum accessible by metro, though you'll need to drive for GW's home. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The AC was cumbersome - it had an imprecise thermostat and no auto feature. The pool and fitness facilities were excellent. Could be closer to King St, but for the money it's unbeatable and well within walking distance. There is an outstanding diner on Royal St about 4 blocks away called the Royal Diner. They have wonderful breakfast on weekdays and Saturday, but only offer buffet on Sundays. The buffet is adequate, but mostly I just wanted a couple eggs, grits and ham. Their Virginia ham is quite authentic.

Park on the street. Hotel lot runs $20/day which isn't horrible, but there are better spaces to be had.

Not what I expected

The room was a disappointment. The batub finish was wearing off and the decor was a bit cheesy. Way out of sync with the appearance of the exterior and lobby
