Let me begin with the good. The hotel service was great. They were very responsible and had an interest in my experience at ... their hotel. The hotel is in a great location, just minutes from great dining and a vibrant downtown. The hotel was quite and warm, which is important because it was so cold in SLC. Now the bad& The first room they gave us smelled like two-day-old body odor. We went down to the front desk and they gave us another room that smelled like one-day-old body odor. It was an improvement for them but still a terrible experience for us. We parked in their garage while checking in. In the 45 minutes it took for us to get checked in and situated in our second room, we received a ticket for parking in the garage. The front desk clerk took the ticket and told us not to worry about it. It's good they can take care of the ticket. Still, it created a bad experience for me as a hotel guest. Also, room comfort would have been rated a 4 if it weren't for the body odor smell. Based on the body odor smell of the two rooms we had, I would not recommend this hotel to friends or family. 70% bad experience 30% good experience - the front desk staff really made a terrible hotel experience bearable for us. Kudos. Unfortunately, it's not enough to make me a return customer.

acceptable hotel - service not so great

German business traveler Nov 17, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel is well equipped and clean. Rooms are nice and quite. Pool and fitness room are really good and are recommendable. ... Generally it is a nice hotel. The staff however mademe mad. First they let me wait for one hour. I had booked through [...] just before arriving from an office across. They toldme that it takes about 60 - 90minutes until the booking comes through. I asked to be let in the room but they asked me to wait in the lobby. So I could see that one of the girls got mad at the ringing phones - picked it up and immediately closed again and then shouted laughingly to her colleague - I took it - ha ha ha. The staff of the breakfast room I have to exclude from this - they are great.

We usually stay at this hotel because of the location close to the theater, symphony and restaurants. The rooms are clean ... and comfortable but a bit worn. The upholstered chair in the room had a tear on the arm. If another hotel offers the same rate, we would not stay here.

Worth every penny!

Mark Harnish Oct 30, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

It was a great place to stay. I needed to be near the Salt Palace for the Xango convention, and all the other hotels wanted A ... LOT more money. I will stay there next year for the XanGo convention and any other time I go to SLC. The employees were familiar with the area and directed to where I needed to go, correctly. I hate when you ask someone where something is where THEY live and they do not know. The beds were excellent, the water was hot, the ice machine always had ice and they had two premium TV channels at no extra charge! Internet access, no charge. I also ate at the restaurant onsite, food was great service was friendly and attentive.

i try and stay at the Shilo Inn every time I am in Salt Lake City. It is easy to get to, has ample parking and is in close ... proximity to everything in the downtown area. You can walk right across the street for dinner and it does have a restaurant on the premisis, and continental breakfast. I also like the fact that there is a refrigerator, coffee maker and small microwave in the rooms. It has a great downtown view as well as the beautiful Utah mountains.

The location of the Shilo Inn is great. We walked to dinner and to the nearest Trax Station. Our beds were very ... comfortable. The breakfast was a hot breakfast of our choice from the in-house restaurant. This is an older hotel so the carpet was pretty old. The pool was clean but very deep for our littler kids, although it had a very large hot tub that our littler kids enjoyed. The bathroom was big and the hotel was one of the quieter hotels we have stayed in. The outside view elevator was broken. The staff was helpful and friendly.
