Fantastic ski resort!
I love staying at the Sundial Lodge at the Canyons. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The location couldn't be better for ease of access to the best skiing in Utah. The shuttle into Park City makes it easy to check out the local art galleries and shops.

Exceeded expectations
The price we found was awesome! Our balcony overlooked the base area and the Gondola, perfect location. Bars, shops, lifts, etc right there. Outdoor heated pool and jacuzzis with a great view. Leather couch, full kitchen, 2 flat screen TVs, comp ski check, comp shuttles around resort and to/from PC. AND A POWDER DAY MID-TRIP!!

Home away from home
This was our second year at the Sundial Lodge. This is the most convenient place for families with young children. Especially if you're enrolling in ski school and renting skis. School and the rental place are right next to the hotel. The free shuttle picks you up on the hour, takes you to Park City or the market and brings you back. Staff is polite and wonderful. Every afternoon, after the kids come back from skiing or snowboarding, they are greeted with hot cider and yummy cookies by the fire place. Love it.

Sundial Lodge - April 2011
Our skiing trip (April 2011) was fantastic! The accomodations at the Sundial could have been a little better. We got a studio and boy did it feel crowded/tight. Noisy A/C and the VCR did not work. I commented to the front desk, but they said the only thing they could do was notify the unit owner. Hopefully the next guests will benefit from it.

Not so great stay at Sundial
Room needs to be updated. Shower worked sporadically, with water shutting completely off while in midst of showering. Because it was just my son and I, it worked out, but I could not bring my wife and daughter to Sundial without a properly working shower. Called front desk 4 times about problem. They finally said this happens when people in hotel take showers at same time.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Enjoyed dining at the Canyons. Alpine House, The Farm, Red Tail all excellent. Westgate poor, the two of us reluctantly seated (we didn't have a reservation) although restaurant was less than half full. All waiters ingnored us, so we left went to Alpine House and had great dinner with excellent service.

Great Location
The Sundial is located only steps from the gondola base and right on the main plaza where the Canyons facilities are located. You can't get any closer. The hotel is setup with very long hallways and the elevator banks are at one end of the hall rather than in the middle, so if you do not want to do a lot of walking, ask for a room closer to the elevator. There are limited breakfast options at the Canyons. There was nothing in the hotel itself. Our room had a toaster and a microwave, so you could prepare a simple breakfast in the room if you bring your own supplies. There also are limited dinner options, but we went into Park City for dinner every night, so that was not a problem. Other than the limited dining options, the service at the hotel was great. Complementary parking (below ground) and ski check, outdoor hot tub and heated swimming pool, free wifi. Our room also shared a washer/dryer with the adjacent room. The staff was always helpful and friendly.

Wasted a day of skiing
Wasted day of skiing w/out reimbursement
Arrived at 11pm and had no hot water at all. The room was ok but the bathroom had a window into the bedroom and when you used the light it shined so bright I was compelled to use the bathroom in the dark so as not to disturb the other people sleeping-sounds small but it was really obnoxious. Also our check out time clearly stated 4pm on our reservation and the hotel called us while we were skiing and told us we had to check out at 11. Imagine getting a family of four from the opposite side of the mountain all the was to the hotel to checkout.

Convenience is Everything
Skiing and staying right on the mountain is key especially if you have children. You walk out in your ski boats and right onto the lift. You also have the convenience of getting you tickets at a discount right at the lodge and storing your skiis right in the lobby every day.
