Great Value, Wonderful Staff

We were greeted by a very nice staff member. They were courteous and generous with their attention. very polite. Made us feel very welcome. it is an older bailed out. But it was a great value in a great location. In the downtown area.

Park your car and walk... everywhere.

I've been hopping around the budget motels in Cedar City for years, since I go down every summer and fall for the Shakespeare festival and I have to count my pennies. In comparison to other places at the same price, THIS PLACE IS FANTASTIC. It's been around for years so occasionally you get a room that has seen better days, a little wear and tear. But the place is clean, pleasant, and has a pool that I'd feel okay getting into. It is just a little over a block from the festival theaters, so you don't have to worry about parking. It even has a microwave and fridge in each room, so if money gets really tight you can grab a frozen dinner from the grocery store or warm up your left overs from the night before.

The Grind Coffee Shop. Great Coffee place, but try their sandwiches. They have a turkey sandwich with a spicy raspberry jam I get every time I'm in town... heavenly stuff.

Great location... little run down.

Stayed four nights to attend attend Shakespeare festival. Pros: LOVED the location, right downtown, in walking distance to the theaters and shops. And the price was wonderful for a theater-goer on a budget. Staff was friendly and helpful. Clean room. Fridge and microwave in room, both very clean and functioning. Free Continental breakfast basic but filling, who doesn't love waffles? Cons: The mattress was hard without being supportive. From the wallpaper in the bathroom to the decor, the room seemed really dated. There isn't an elevator to get to the third floor, so it can be a bit of a hike. The layout of the hotel is... unique, slightly maze-like, which I sort of enjoy but got my traveling companion turned around a few times. Also their pool wasn't fully filled while I was there.

Hit up Centro Pizza just across the street. Fire-baked, thin crust, napoli-style pizza... good stuff.

How did you rate this can 3 stars?

The floors in the rooms and halls were filthy, stained and in need of replacement a decade ago. The bathroom was abysmal. Find out who rated this thing and send them packing....make them stay in the Stratford Court in Cedar City, Utah.

Not a 3 star experience

This hotel has not been updated since at least the early 80's. There was no attendant on duty 24hrs, in fact there was no attendant at all. There was a note on the counter saying to call the hotel next door (best western) and someone would be over to help us. When the person finally arrived they said that the property was being managed by the hotel next door for the season. The pool was empty with about 2 feet of green algae and moss at the the bottom, the carpet is torn and completely worn out on the route to our room, all furniture and appliances were 30 years old plus. The entrance to the rooms is next to the dumpster which is was disgusting and could have had adequate fencing to cover it. With all the competition in the area this place was garbage.

Late Check-In

My partner and I did not get into town till very late. There was no front desk attendant and we had to go across the street to check-in with the staff at the Best Western. I have never seen a hotel do this before and it was mildly incovenient and frustrating after a long drive.

Good location, basic lodging

First room smelled like cigarette and cleaning chemicals -- this is a "smoke-free property" -- but the staff promptly placed us in a nearby room that was significantly better. Room was clean, bathroom clean and spacious, bed comfortable. Hallways are a bit dingy and could use new carpet. The complimentary breakfast is less than inspiring. Go half a block to The Grind for good espresso and food for a decent price.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Depot Grill -- Great food and ambience in former nicely renovated former railroad station. Good wine and dessert. Not cheap, but reasonable value for the money spent and an unusually good dining experience for a restaurant located in a small town.
