Steeped in history and celebrity, the St Anthony offers impressive surroundings and modern touches to ensure the comfort of its guests. The hotel retains many of its period features, including high ceilings and gold leaf décor. St Anthony Rooms
Creamy tones on the walls and furniture aim to soothe guests, while comfortable mattresses and 100 percent pure cotton bed linen promote a restful night's sleep. Stylish touches, including patterned drapes, tasteful artwork in gilt frames and rich wooden furniture bring elegance and warmth. Four-poster beds in nearly all rooms add to the feeling of sophistication. The hotel was built in 1909 and many rooms retain period features such as original tiling in the bathrooms. Some rooms have views of downtown San Antonio or the nearby park. Wireless Internet and televisions with premier channels (charges may apply) alongside complimentary coffee and coffeemaker make relaxing easy, while a work desk provides space for guests who have to work during their stay. The St Anthony is a great option for families or larger groups, courtesy of its rooms with two queen beds and two full-size bathrooms. Large living areas in the suites, which range from 300 to 500 sq ft, provide space to really spread out; some also offer sofa beds to accommodate extra guests. Full size bathrooms in all rooms have branded bath products to aid relaxation at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. Two specialty suites are available for special stays, one being the room used by John Wayne during filming of 'The Alamo'. In-room spa treatments may be arranged and a room service menu is available (charges apply).

The St. Anthony is a truly unique property with a staff that seems to appreciate and respect it as well as they interact with their guests. San Antonio has always been a warm, friendly city. We were there for a wedding that was handled for the most part in house by hotel staff. Very impressive. Many in our group didn't receive the type of room reserved, but that's the only real issue. Sure, after 100 plus years a few things are frayed about the edges, but no big deals. I will definitely return and can't wait to see how a $20 million plus remodel turns out. If they put a chunk of that money into antique furniture restoration, it'll be awesome.

Short walk from hotel
Texas de Brazil is right around the corner. We crossed off a "bucket list" item by dining at this Brazilian "churrasceria". Wow! Don't hesitate to inform your servers (yes, plural) that it is your first experience at a restaurant of it's type. Easy to get a table on short notice without prior reservations and on a Friday evening as well. Fogo de Chao is another competing restaurant in the area, but it is known for long wait times. It's probably awesome as well. Hotel concierge steered us in the right direction on this one!

Lovely Hotel
Only one block from the Riverwalk, this hotel was a joy. A true historic building. Price was more than perfect and service very pleasant. Looking for a great Italian meal? Just down the block - try Toscana Ristorante - absolutely wonderful! Would definitely recommend this hotel and will return at a later date. One note: it would have been nice to have the pool bar open on Sunday afternoon.

Fun in San Antonio
Excellent location and friendly staff
My husband and I stayed for a short three night vacation and had quite a bit planned. I was very worried that we wouldn't be able to fit everything in. However, due to the St. Anthony's perfect location, we were able to reach everything and often times within walking distance! The staff also helped me plan out the best ways to get to certain places, and also suggested some wonderful additional sites to see. Great restaurant and bar, and I really loved the afternoon jazz band and happy hour in the lobby! My only wish is that the rooms contained hair dryers.

Biga on the Banks is a great food option. You will pass several spots down on the River Walk but will still have a great view of the River and outstanding meal.

Classic hotel
Perfectly fine hotel at a great downtown location. Stay here if you like old hotels. It's not so old that George Washington could have slept there, but John Wayne did.

San Antonio's Riverwalk is a great attraction, but the food isn't anything special. Better if you come back to street level for a good restaurant.
