Original features provide elegance, modern touches provide convenience
Steeped in history and celebrity, the St Anthony offers impressive surroundings and modern touches to ensure the comfort of its guests. The hotel retains many of its period features, including high ceilings and gold leaf décor. Chandeliers, grand staircases and ornate decoration show why the St Anthony has been a favorite with celebrities over the years. Modern guests will find a fitness centre and 24-hour business centre among its more modern amenities and an outdoor swimming pool, overlooking the city, provides an amazing place to workout or relax.

Outdoor swimming pool overlooking city skyline
St Anthony Rooms
Creamy tones on the walls and furniture aim to soothe guests, while comfortable mattresses and 100 percent pure cotton bed linen promote a restful night's sleep. Stylish touches, including patterned drapes, tasteful artwork in gilt frames and rich wooden furniture bring elegance and warmth. Four-poster beds in nearly all rooms add to the feeling of sophistication. The hotel was built in 1909 and many rooms retain period features such as original tiling in the bathrooms. Some rooms have views of downtown San Antonio or the nearby park. Wireless Internet and televisions with premier channels (charges may apply) alongside complimentary coffee and coffeemaker make relaxing easy, while a work desk provides space for guests who have to work during their stay. The St Anthony is a great option for families or larger groups, courtesy of its rooms with two queen beds and two full-size bathrooms. Large living areas in the suites, which range from 300 to 500 sq ft, provide space to really spread out; some also offer sofa beds to accommodate extra guests. Full size bathrooms in all rooms have branded bath products to aid relaxation at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. Two specialty suites are available for special stays, one being the room used by John Wayne during filming of 'The Alamo'. In-room spa treatments may be arranged and a room service menu is available (charges apply).

Convenient downtown location, great staff.
Staff was very pleasant and professional, especially Richard who recommended several excellent local places to eat. Hotel is 2 blocks from restaurant area of River Walk, and a few blocks from the Alamo and other downtown attractions. Hotel itself is comfortable, historic and elegant in an old style fashion, but could use some serious freshening. Price of room was fine, but keep in mind there is an extra daily charge to park your car overnight.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
River Walk for restaurants and pleasant park areas. Take the trolley package with the off/on, River Walk boat ride, and iMax features. They all originate in the area around the Alamo (which is free to visit). Allow a few hours early in the day as some things close in the early evening.

Too many extra fees.
The hotel looks like a set from Mad Men and is very quiet. However, they nickel and dime you for everything. Parking is $25 a night + $10 per day. So parking a car for 2 days is about the same as staying in the hotel a day. Continental breakfast is $13. Internet $10 a day. Roll out bed is $15. Need I go on?

The people were nice and mostly helpful. BUT, the first day we arrived after a full day of touring we wanted to take showers. We had no bath towels. I called and was told we would get some right away. Never happened. We got them after the next days cleaning. The bed had a bulge that made you almost roll out of bed. Bathroom never was as clean as we expect (old tub and toilet). Carpet was not up to any standard.

Most helpful city I ever visited. The visitor center was great and they even have people in yellow shirts walking around just to help you find what you are looking for. Very friendly city.

Great character during a convention stay
I liked the historical feel of everything, and the staff was courteous. I also enjoyed witnessing the other guests engaging in a Steampunk convention. The things I liked least were not having a full-length mirror, and the bathroom mirror being situated so high on the wall that I had to stand on tiptoes to do my makeup, and upon a chair to flat-iron my hair. (I'm 5'2" and only saw my face when flat-footed). Something else that was weird was that my room key never unlocked my door in fewer than 7-10 attempts. One other thing I found disappointing was to be charged a $10 wi-fi charge in my room twice within 24 hours. I checked email once in the morning and once in the late afternoon and got billed separately. I should have talked to someone about it, but I didn't - guess I had other things on my mind. The location was great, not too difficult getting around. Overall, I did enjoy it and would stay again.

Okay
Our room was clean and very nice, however it was on the side facing the back alley so we heard dumpsters being emptied several times each night.

Classic in all the good ways. Felt like I'd gone back in time to the 50's. Staff was wonderful. Room was surprisingly large with TWO bathrooms. TV and cable feed was very poor, which in a weird way fit the ambience.

Great couple getaway
Our stay here was a very at home feel! Welcoming and sincere. The hotel itself is beautiful with history and furnishings. The staff made us feel like we were apart of something great with the freedom to walk around and take in the views with in the hotel. Due to the hotels history we were intrigued to look down hallways, conference rooms etc..
