great hotel!!!
the staff were great. We traveled with a 2month old infant and they graciously upgraded us to a quiet floor with a larger room to accommodate us and provided an in room mini fridge for formula/medications. Valet in/out parking was great and resourceful. Very close to the river walk. The bathrooms do need some upgrading though!

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Walgreens (not just your aveagre pharmacy but grocery/food/clothes ands more) is located across the street along with the Majestic Theater (check their website for ongoing shows). The Alamo is a 3 minute walk and the River Walk with a rare elevator access point and a Starbucks and Hard Rock Cafe are 1 minute away. It's a 15 minute pleasant walk to the Convention Center.

Good location
This hotel is very close to the river walk and the alamo. The hotel is very nice looking and historic, the rooms are updated and very comfortable. The only downside is that they only offer valet parking or you have to park across the street in a public ramp. Other then that it is a great hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.

A wonderful place!!
First I would like to say that my wife and I are from the VERY rural, deep South. Hospitality and politeness are practically part of our DNA. We travel a lot and have grown used to the rudness and indifference of "Big City" people. So we were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Sheraton/Gunter hotel. From the moment we walked into the lobby, we were greeting warmly and treated as if we were old friends returning. (this was our first stay here) The staff was very helpful, answering all of our questions and even making calls for us when they didn't have the answer readily available. The hotel itself is very charming and seems to have an intense aura of history in every nook and cranny. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. You couldn't ask for a better location in San Antonio. We were within walking distance of all of the sights we had planned on seeing. The only, ONLY negative thing about our stay here was the fact that we had to leave!! But we left feeling very pampered, and sure a return visit is in our future!! Thank you to the staff and management of the Sheraton/Gunter for the great weekend!! sincerely, Robbie and Roxie Ashmore Thida, Ar. USA

Just OK but needs updating
We stayed in this hotel because of the wedding. I have to admit this hotel knows how to organize beautiful, first class wedding party. Can't tell the same about hotel rooms :( we had 2 rooms with 2 queen size beds. the rooms were VERY small. For one room we requested a crib and they gave us bigger room but the other one was REALLY small. When I plan to stay in 4 star hotel I expect to see refrigerator, bathrobes, cosmetic products like: shower cap, cotton swabs, sewing kit but they only gave us tiny bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap and old towels (thank God at least clean). I couldn't believe that there was no fridge in rooms! Good things: perfect location 5 minutes walking distance to Riverwalk, very comfortable beds. I know it's a historic hotel but MUST be renovated because everything looks old inside the rooms especially bathrooms.

Excellent Service
Easy to find location, in the center of all attractions. I was welcomed with a great smile since the minute I stepped in the doors. I was even upgraded to a bigger room than I had originally booked for the same price. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back.

great style, great downtown
the location is great. downtown san antonio was a terrific surprise. the riverwalk is a great tourist area. all the downtown buildings are interesting. beautiful area. alamo and riverwalk and mall/market are within walking distance of this hotel. the hotel staff was okay, not great. the elevators were remarkably fast. conference rooms aren't particularly soundproof, but the regular hotel rooms are. beautiful, historic lobby and facade. great stay if you can get a good price. service in the hotel bakery is terrible, but there's a good, cheap coffee shop breakfast place (sip) right across the street, so that's not a problem.
