Overview

Since opening in the early 1960s, the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio has provided comfortable lodging to rock stars, politicians and other notable guests. Featuring palm trees and exotic foliage, the lobby boasts a tropical ambiance. The interior decor in this hotel is heavily inspired by native culture of Mexico. Additionally, a retro motif is integrated into the design in order to celebrate the hotel's early days. Lush gardens decorate the trails that run through this riverfront property. Surrounded by wicker furniture and tiki huts, the outdoor swimming pool is a great place to beat the Texas heat.

Awesome Thanksgiving trip.

Great staff, clean, neat and very well kept facility. We will be back and we will stay here again. Easy access on and off the I-35. Wish I would have known about the daily parking fees in advance. No big deal, but hate surprises.

Not worth it!

Would not recommend Tue, Nov 24, 2015
We stayed 2 nights. Although the hotel is on the riverwalk it is far away from restaurants and shops, a good 15-20 months n walk. Hotel was not clean: dust in many areas like the hey hadn't dusted in months, a blood stain on the mattress cover and comforter, in room coffee not good, and stain the on towel. Hotel staff was ok. It looked liked they had a good breakfast buffet but we couldn't try it because they only accept cash. Hotel has an outdoor pool but it was closed both days. Don't recommend this hotel. Decided to stay at Grad Hyatt for the rest of our trip. WAY better or expensive but worth it and it was close to river attractions.

Best Friend Birthday Get-Away

Would recommend Sat, Oct 24, 2015
Had a great time staying at the El Tropicano. The people working there couldn't have been nicer..hotel was a little out-dated but had an Old School Vibe loved the location close enough to the Riverwalk but not smack in the middle of the touristy area. The public transportation to get around was fabulous the bus stopped right in front of the hotel and it was easy to get to the tourist spots...would recommend for those on a budget good value for what you get!

not far off the main riverwalk at all

Would recommend Sat, Sep 19, 2015
You can walk the Riverwalk directly to stairs that lead to the hotel. It is not on the Riverwalk proper, but it is very close. If you are OK being just off the main strip, this is a great deal. If you're looking for a special Riverwalk experience, pay the extra $$$$ to stay and a fancy place in the middle of the main spot. It is better than any other boring big box budget hotel, but it is no Omni, Westin, Marriot, etc.
