It was a short walk to one of the best tram servces we have come across in our travels. The river walk was beautiful.there were shops of all kinds ,restaurants with great foods. San Antoios best feature were its people who would go out of there way to help you. A great way to spend our 49th anniversary.

Great Hotel - Not so great service
Cindy - a Notre Dame fan Nov 1, 2009
We traveled for a football game which was great! However, from the check-in experience to the check-out experience....staff ... could have been kinder and more helpful. Don't bother with room service ... they were either late or didn't get it right. Also, don't expect to find a clean room when you get back to your room after a day out on the town. Very disappointing. Is there no management at this hotel?

Glorified Super 8 Motel
TNT~Military Aug 12, 2009
The Hotel had a beautiful Lobby and meeting rooms those were the only things that matched the website. The rooms weren't that ... great big but nothing to write home about. No refrigerator or microwave in the room that was extra for each. None of the vending machines worked. The pool was nice size but pool area below average and water fountains didn't work. chairs lounges were broken up couldn't sit on many. Second floor patio area fountain didn't work no chairs/tables. It was very shocking to see it was nothing like the website. We stayed 7 nights staff was not very friendly Except for the Valet Parking young men. Other than that they need a meeting on attitude adjustments and what customer service means. Overall ~ It was nothing more than an over rated Super 8 Motel.R/W was closed outside the Hotel so you had to walk four blocks. We loved the River Walk and all the reastaurants we ate in.. Rita's was good Mexican and The Brazillian Steak House was awesome. If we go back we'll stay at the Drury or Marriott.

The Crowne Plaza has gone down hill...
WSRoss Aug 3, 2009
I took my husband here for his birthday weekend. When we booked the hotel room, we checked out the pictures on the website ... and it looked like they had plush beds, flat screen t.v., bigger rooms, and a garden tub. We were super excited to stay in a 4 star hotel room with what is said one of the best hotel companies. With that said, before we even saw the room, we checked in and asked if we could upgrade to the executive level for $10 more. They said no problem and we were moved from the fifth floor to the 19th floor with the "executive package". We inquired about the package (according to the website, it included turn down service, access to the executive level lounge, and bigger rooms). When we arrived this is what we got: a holiday inn set up! Cheap bedding, hard mattress, a little 19 inch tv, a room that is maybe 12x12, a tiny bathroom, an ordinary tub, a slippery bathroom floor. There was no turn down service, the executive level bar was non existant (when questioned about it, the response we received was that the building was formally a bank and that was not in the construction plans?? What? How can you do executive rooms with plumbing but not do a bar with plumbing). On top of all of this, the room wasn't ready. There were no bathroom supplies, the room was dusty and not vacuumed. We called downstairs to be switched and they said to give them an hour and we will have a redone room. So we complied and went to dinner at the riverwalk. We got back and the room was ready. The next morning my husband woke up with a huge spider bite on his inner thigh. We told the check out person and they said that they were sorry to hear that then handed us the bill. What a mess!!! We will not be back!! The Crowne Plaza has definitely gone down hill from the prestige that it once was.

The dining was great! They recommended a place called Acenazar that was yummy! I just wished that they told us that we would be walking by the homeless shelter to get to the restaurant since their riverwalk entrance was closed to a private party. Not a good part of town!

Hotel stay in my own city
KC Jul 8, 2009
I am from San Antonio, and coming from Japan, decided to stay downtown, thinking the nightlife would be like that of other ... big cities, which it wasn't. There were nothing but bums hanging around the hotel asking for money, and while the parking at the hotel was extremely expensive at $30 a night, you could risk it at a pay-for-parking lot right next to it for $4 a night, which I risked and was OK.

Nothing to get excited about
David Jul 7, 2009
This was the most ordinary 4 diamond hotel that I have ever stayed at. That's not necessarily bad, just not anything special. ... Services like parking, internet, and breakfast were all extra cost, while not being anything worthy of that extra cost. The location was a fair distance from restaurants and attractions. While it was walkable, due to construction along the riverwalk, the path took you through some "questionable" neighborhoods. Again, it wasn't bad... Just not great.

It was a very nice place but the workers were not nice, took for ever to answer the phone, were rude when asked for help, but ... there was on bell boy that was very nice to us took his time and gave us the run down of San Antonio thank you [...] . I would not saty thier again to expensive a bottole water 3.50 each thats crazy, and the hotel is not on the River walk it is the fat toe of the River walk. Again very nice but not worth the money. La Quinta would be much better.

--Kelley, Dallas, TX Jun 12, 2009
The River Walk can be peaceful and relaxing if you go one direction, then is a series of restaurants and crowds the other direction. We found poor quality meals and service on the River walk and excellent dining and service in other area restaurants.
--Mary, Colorado Jun 10, 2009
There is a parking lot kitty corner to the hotel that is a third the cost of valet. I would definitely park there next time!
--Zelder, Mohave County, AZ Jun 8, 2009
If you want to head to the Riverwalk for sight-seeing or dining, ask for directions. There is some construction going on down there that makes it difficult to just get on the Riverwalk and keep on walking ... a few detours to watch out for.
--Frequent Traveler, Virginia Beach, VA Jun 6, 2009
Sea World was a blast and it is only a short drive from the hotel. I would recommend buying your passes and parking online prior to going. Our two year old loved it so much we decided to spend an additional day there. The Fun Pass gives you unlimited access in case you want to go back several days like we did.

--Mike super dad, Redlands, CA May 31, 2009
Try to see the area attractions; do the Riverboat tour of the Riverwalk first to get your bearings, The Alamo, Bandera (cowboy town & pro rodeo), Schlitterbaum waterpark. Food portion on the Riverwalk restaurants are huge. Order one appetizer and one regular dinner for two. More than enough food. The Mom & Pop Mexican restaurants are a real treasure find for great authentic Tex-Mex food.
--toothfairy, Nazareth, Pennsylvania May 26, 2009
Walk down St. Marys to Houston to catch the Riverwalk at Dick's restuarant, rather than trying to get on the riverwalk at the Crowne Plaza.
