Carefree Inn Lackland

My sister stayed here and was horrified. She eventually checked out and checked into the hotel where I was staying (Best Western, Ingram Park). This hotel was dirty. The rooms are antique and dingy, down to the paint of the walls. The front desk never asked for a credit card or ID to check in. It's really sad because you literally can walk out of the hotel an onto the AFB. If the owners invested some money towards a good renovation they would make a killing.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone unless they're looking for just an overnight stay for one night. I felt very unsecure the entire time. I was very upset that our room was not clean when we were given our room key after checking in. The beds were stripped, there was trash filled to the tops of the trashcans and all over the place, dirty towels everywhere. Just a huge mess. So we waited an hour an a half till our rooms were cleaned and ready to be slept in. Everyone who stayed there was very disrespectful and noisy. The best part of the hotel was that it was right offbase from Lackland AFB to where we were going to be all weekend. So location was just right. Quality, however, not so much. The desk manager woke us up at 11 o'clock at night to have me call about my reservations after we have already been checked in half the day, very disrespectful.

The only thing this place has going for it is that it is close to the base. It is dirty, has cockroaches, stinks, the beds are uneven, hair on the floor in the bathroom, mold in the shower, stains on the sheets, gum on the pillows. Do not believe the reviews, this place was a nightmare. If you are going for the base stay some where else and drive, it is worth the time and the money, I promise!

If you are looking for a place that is right outside Lackland Airforce Base (about 100 to 250 feet away) and you do not care what the motel/hotel offers in room/bathroom quality this is the place to stay. The motel rooms are LIME GREEN in color, the bathroom toilet rocked, ceiling light did not work it was burned out, toilet paper roll was out and ran out during our stay (was not replaced until asked for some). Residents could be heard through the paper thin walls and ceilings at 0130 a.m. in the morning. Not a place to leave your food in a refrigerator (think twice before doing so, they do not tell you): house-keeping unplugs the refrigerator the next day after you placed food in it to use to save money and find that the food has gone bad since it was unplugged. The evening staff responded to situations was prompt and courteous to us. The breakfast bar was reasonable and stocked.

The motel was more than I really expected, since it was located in an area that was not exactly good, when I left the area 10 years ago. The area has cleaned up and is much better. The only problem was that the road was not very good, it is full of pot holes, but we got around them without any damage to our tires.

We chose Carefree Inn Lackland by checking the reviews of former customers. I think we all agree...the motel is not state of the art, but it is clean and the convenience of being so close to the Air Force base made it worth while. The staff was friendly and the cleaning personnel took care of our rooms each morning. The pool was great!!

The hotel was old and the rooms very dusty. This made my allergies act up every time I was in the room. Staff was nice, but twice our room was not cleaned. The only positive is that the hotel is right outside the base gate and it made it easy to get on base in the morning. I will never stay in this hotel again and wouldn't recommend it.

This place is right at the entrance to the base. That's a plus and a minus. The plus is that you are right there, the minus is the early morning traffic can leave you locked in for a while. The hotel is just a place to sleep and park your bags, your paying for the location. At the end of a busy day though, you probably won't be going out much, so you do spend some time there. It's in serious need of remodeling and maintenance. We had to get them to unclog the sink on arrival, the batteries died on the key-card lock, and we routinely had to go ask for towels each night. I realize the Texas heat might make remodeling hard to schedule, but the obvious upkeep shouldn't be overlooked as standard operations. The day staff was friendly, the night staff had a bit of an attitude. All in all, it got the job done, but I doubt I would stay there again.

This hotel was awesome!! No complaints at all. The pool is connected to a hot tub which was perfect because while my kids swam, mom was relaxing in the hot tub! 8-) The room was very clean smelled very nice, of course I checked for bed bugs and found 0. The walls are a bright green which was a first but made the room different in a good way. I would definatly stay here again!

The absolute worst place i could stay at. I could not believe that they did nt charge by the hour this place was so bad.
