Carefree Inn Lackland

I stayed here for my husband's graduation from basic at Lackland AFB. The Carefree was my only option since I am not old enough to rent a car and would have been uncomfortable driving in the area any way (crazy congested highways). I was hesitant due to the other reviews [...]...and for good reason. The hotel was reasonably clean, but could have been MUCH better. Sheets were never changed on the bed, there were hairs on the bathroom floor when I arrived and they were never cleaned up by the maid even after a 5 night stay, twice I came back to my room and there were ZERO towels, and I wouldn't walk around the room without socks or flip flops on (filthy!). However, the room didn't smell bad, the sheets on the bed were clean when I arrived (even if they weren't changed all week), and I found no bugs. I don't think I would stay here again if I were able to rent a car, but, you get what you pay for and for $50, you can't beat the location. On the bright side, the pool was decent (I went swimming twice and it was enjoyable), the staff was extremely friendly and quick to give me towels (since the maid didn't think I need to shower apparently), and the air conditioner worked well (important when it's over 100* out!). If you stay, I recommend the mexican restaurant right across the parking lot. BEST MEXICAN FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD!!! The place was kind of a dump, but it was awesome food and the wait staff was friendly. I highly suggest the guadalajara plate or chicken fajitas! Also, we had a very friendly taxi driver who actually lived at the Carefree. If you get an add in the door about Sir William Taxi, call him. He knew the area very well, was very quick, and even gave 20% off to Airforce people. :) FOR THOSE WITH MOLD ALLERGIES: do NOT stay here. The ceiling tiles in my bathroom were SO moldy they were FUZZY. Disgusting!!

i stayed at the carefree inn in lackland solely because of the closeness to the lackland AFB. other families and i could literally walk across the yard to the valley hi gate, which also has a 24-hour visitors' center so you can sign in. i stayed for five days, and it was pretty much just a place to sleep, so i didn't expect much. the hotel smelled a little funny- mainly in the bathroom. the hotel staff was very friendly, however, they did not give me new towels like three days in a row. this was my first time ever travelling alone, and it actually was not as bad as i thought. i recommend this hotel for people going to the lackland afb graduation. there is a bus stop rather close to the hotel where you and your airman can walk if you didn't rent a car or drive (i didn't even have to rent a car because it was so close to the entrance of the base!) and you can take the bus downtown on town-pass days. it is also very close to a lot of restraunts!

As we arrived, we were NOT Greeted my a person. I had to come to the desk and told the man that i was checking in. The old gentleman looked like some one just hired him from the streets. Longed hair, NOT Groomed with a dirty hat and NO TEETH! YUCK! so i checked in and he gave me an attitude...UGh! so i got my stuff and he gave me a Room. when we got to the room it looked old BAD SMELL! smelled like some one had smoked tabacco. It smelled BITTER! and it was HOT! So disgusting. I went back to the old gentleman and requested another room. This room was down stairs much cooler but had stained ceiling and the restroom, toilet didnt flush right! and when we wanted to enjoy the TV the Buttons of the TV to turn they were all pushed out. MY STAY SUCKED! I wished i knew a better to stay the night.

I went to daughters Graduation on Lackland. Went to Riverwalk and did some shopping. It would have been more enjoyable if the bed sheets were changed everyday I was there.

Visit son for Basic training graduation.

The motel was OK. The location is great for people visiting basic graduation at Lackland AFB. Mexican restaurant next door that looks like a dive is excellent.

If you can get past the lime green walls, room was very clean, staff friendly and cooperative. The bathroom tub faucet leaked and one of the rooms had a problem with hot water(there wasn't any).Not the Ritz, but for the money perfect place to stay if you have a son/daughter graduating at Lackland AFB.They kept us so busy, we didnt spend much time at the hotel.Just a comfy place to sleep, but don't rely on them for a wake up call!

My father in law and I stayed at this hotel for one night. And i have to say that i don't think i would have wanted to stay there more than one night. We went down to see my husband graduate from basic, and were staying at the hotel on base the rest of the nights. But this was a place that was close so that we didnt have to deal with alot of traffic in the morning.

If you are going to San Antonio to attend the graduation of your son or daughter from BMT, then this motel may be for you, especially if you are trying to keep the cost down and want to be close to area on base where you need to be. Don't go, however, thinking that this will be a luxury hotel - it isn't, in fact, it isn't even close. If you just want a place to lay your head at night, then consider this motel. I spent very little time in the room since I was more often attending activities and town pass with my son and didn't care about anything more than needing a place to sleep at night. If you want to stay here for any other reason, I wouldn't recommend it.
