The good and the bad
The staff was extremely friendly. However, the room was not so nice. The floor was wet within three feet of the air conditioner, and the room had a damp feeling. The renovation work in the bathroom tile area was poorly done. There were no directions on how to use the remote for the television and there was no menu for the restaurant in the room. The price, for what you got, was extremely high. We were also to get a special rate since the rooms were blocked for a wedding, yet for $5.00 a night less, we could have stayed at a hotel that included a fitness center and a continential breakfast. The pool had knats floating all over and I would not attempt to even get in it. The hallway smelled like skunk. I could tell that housekeeping was trying to get rid of the smell, but it was not successfully done during our stay.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
This is remote area, with not much to do other than go to the small mall which is really close by. A nice Target down the street if you need anything. A few nice restaurants. As far as attractions, we picked up the "things to do" magazine in the hotel lobby, which described some interesting places. So since we had some time, we decided to scope them out. The attractions were definitely overstated. There was basically nothing to do other than go to a movie, which can be done anyplace.

Great hotel experience
This hotel provided the best service ever. They had a driver take me anywhere I wanted to go, and picked me up afterwards--several times. Each staff member couldn't have been nicer. It was also very clean, with a restaurant overlooking a pool and garden.

Port Arthur is not very alive, but I did visit and enjoy several churches, the local museum (Janis Joplin and other notables), and the boardwalk overlooking the canal.

Suitable for a single person
There is no doubt the staff at the hotel were very accomodating. The room was very clean, the air-conditioner worked well, the bathroom was exceptional. The location allowed me easy access to all the places I wanted to go. The desk clerk gave me an even better route to my destination in that town. There was only one glitch but not a devastating one. The coffee pot switch in the room did not work. I reported it to the maid who was nearby in the hall. Not that this was a fault of the hotel, but I would have dearly loved to have had a microwave in the room because I am on the Nutrisystem diet and my supper was supposed to be micr4owaved.

Short drive from hotel
The hotel is in the center of the business sections midway between Beaumont and Port Arthur. There is easy access to the refineries, hospitals, golf courses, and the interstate.

This was literally the nicest Holiday Inn that I have ever stayed at. The rooms smelled nice and were cleaned to perfection. Very private hotel with friendly staff.
