Don't let it's looks decieve you?

Went down there for a alumni convention of sorts. We travel about the US to have these once a year. Because of this,I have been to many hotels, and this one was great. Don't let the 1970's design of the grounds fool you, everything there is very modern and well kept, the staff does a great job and are friendly, and the Motel is located near many places to eat, shop, tube,go to 'Schlitterbahn'(it's a Waterpark),Gruene, and so forth. The only bad thing I could possibly say about it is that it's sign is a little hard to see from the highway, but that's the fault of TxDot and how that 'new' overpass was built? (It's just at or below guardrail level) This Motel is also convenient to San Antonio, just get on the road and go? If I travel to New Braunfels again,I would stay there again.

Try 'Mamacita's' for Mexican food and 'Friesenhaus' for German food. Both are pretty good. And don't miss Buc-ee's (Gas Station/Store) a couple exits up 35, They have good food as well....and that place is HUGE!!!

It was Very convenient.

It was just off of I-35, so easy to get to Austin, or San Antonio. Right around the corner from the Smokehouse restaurant and numerous others. Very close to the Comal River for tubing summer fun, but far enough away from the traffic and hustle of the Comal and the Big Water park which drew in 1000's for the July 4th weekend. Staff helpful. Breakfast was as we expected, and good. The ice machine over by our room did not keep up with the demand, but they had bags of ice next to the front desk for guests to help themselves to. Worked great and was faster anyway for a cooler.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

three words Landa River Trips. LRT. get your tube rental there, walk over to the put in and have a great $15 afternoon on the river.....slow and relaxing. 3-4 hour float. Much more relaxing and cost effective water activity than the SB waterpark next to the Comal River. They pick you up at the last exit tubers take, and bring you back to your car. We did both the tubing and the waterpark and had to say the Comal River tube trip was much more fun. Bring your own drinks (no glass), your cooler (which must close securely) can also go into a tube with a bottom you tie on. Can also stop at a restaurant at the "chute" for food and drinks too which is 1/2 way down the float. great day.

Don't Judge this Book By Its Cover....

As you pull up to the hotel you will immediately notice of old style "Holiday Inn" type architecture. But, don’t judge this book by the cover. The interior lobby, bar/lounge and breakfast area is up to date and modern. The rooms are typical 1970’s design, but the interior is new and updated (carpet, walls, drapes, linens, mattresses, and bed coverings, etc). Free Wi-Fi works great. Older type TV (no HD) works well with typical channels. The room was very clean room especially the bathroom. The only exception was the bathroom vent needed cleaning. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. The location makes it very easy to find. The only issue was the toilet tank float was malfunctioning which prevented the tank from refilling promptly. I notified the staff. However, I did not want to switch rooms so I tolerated it. I am confident the repair was made. We did not use the pool, but it appeared clean and well maintained. Breakfast was FANTASTIC!! There was a great selection of warm and cold items, fruit, pastries, juices, etc. The waffle station was especially nice as the waffles irons are the shape of Texas! Lastly, my son left his MP3 player in the room and we did not realize it until almost Dallas. A quick call confirmed the staff had found it and the staff agreed to mail it to him at college.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

Historic Gruene Texas is a 5 minute drive from the hotel and worth the trip for shopping and Texas style bar / dance hall entertainment! Loved it! You can avoid the more expensive B&B's in Gruene by staying here!

Great Stay on New Year's

Hotel was super clean and the staff very nice. Breakfast on New Year's Day was great with a lot of different items to choose from. Good location for us since we go to the area for Gruene, TX and don't want to pay their much higher hotel prices. Would recommend.

Pretty good room for the money.

I was in town for Wurstfest and the town was full. This place is probably more affordable any other time. The best feature was the hot breakfast included in the price of the room. Not fancy but way better than the typical continental deal. I'll be back.
