Inconvenient room layout

The Lancaster Hotel had a great location and exterior charm but my room was cramped with an inconvenient layout. The bed's footboard had large posts that I kept bumping into as I squeezed between bed and desk. The closet was located inside the bathroom, and I had to close the bathroom door to fully open the closet door. The bathroom did have a long sink counter, shelving beneath the mirror for toiletries and a separate bath area. The room also had a small luggage rack that just fit between the windows. On a positive note, there were electrical outlets near the bed and in the base of the desk lamp, the wireless internet signal was strong and there was a good mix of cable channels to choose from. The plush bathrobes were another plus.

Nice location,decent room,great price

Nice room, but you can tell that they've cut back on some services due to the economy. No morning paper delivered to your room, and the concierge only available one day a week. A decent restaurant in the lobby, and the free limo service was nice. Free internet, but the PC in the lobby had trouble printing my boarding pass (it had a virus).

Anniversary visit

Arrived earlier than 3PM did not have to wait to go to the room. Fresh flowers and chocolate were in the room. Towels were very soft. Bed was comfortable. Dining room staff were attentive and helpful in suggesting food. Dining room also had fresh flowers on every table. Food was good and price was reasonable. Had a great time. 10 block walk to Minute Maid Park was not bad.

Nice place

Excellent service staff. Very friendly and courteous. This is a very nice old hotel that is a bit quirky. Wifi doesn't always work, two of the three phones in my room didn't work, and there was no easy place to recharge my iPad-the only place I could do so went dead as soon as I turned off the light switch. So the place is beautiful and the staff is outstanding and it is in a great location. But you must be forgiving, because it is old and not everything seems to work all the time. If little things like that drive you nuts, then this is not the place to stay. If you believe that is part of the charm of fancy old-line hotels, than this is a great place to stay. It reminds me a lot of the Waldorf in NYC.

Half a block away from Bayou Park. A great running/walking trail. Forget the gym, you get to see a lot of Houston on this trail.

Best hotel stay ever!

The staff at The Lancaster are very attentive. Especially, the valet. These guys really know what customer service is all about. I was very impressed and I am not easily impressed when it comes to hotels. I usually have something to complain about. Not this time. The story of the hotel and its owners is rather intriguing. The price you pay is more than worth the experience.

Historic hotel in downtown Houston

Conveniently located in downtown Houston, the staff is very friendly and helpful, great restaurant on the ground floor. The room was not very large but comfortable enough. Hot water in the shower was barely warm sometimes but it was not a big problem. I would give it 4 out of 5.
