Throwback

The Lancaster has that feel of days gone by. You get the feel that there truly were gas lamps everywhere. Haven't been to a decent hotel in years where they gave you a real key rather than a plastic card. Really nice staff. Not much of an exercise room - but if you just need a treadmill or the stepping machine, they work fine. The bed was as comfortable as any I have slept in in years on the road...

Historic hotel in downtown Houston

Conveniently located in downtown Houston, the staff is very friendly and helpful, great restaurant on the ground floor. The room was not very large but comfortable enough. Hot water in the shower was barely warm sometimes but it was not a big problem. I would give it 4 out of 5.

Best hotel stay ever!

The staff at The Lancaster are very attentive. Especially, the valet. These guys really know what customer service is all about. I was very impressed and I am not easily impressed when it comes to hotels. I usually have something to complain about. Not this time. The story of the hotel and its owners is rather intriguing. The price you pay is more than worth the experience.

luxury in a small room. VERY SMALL ROOM

the wife and i went to a concert out in Houston, so we needed a room. well [...]gave us a great price, but the room was so small that we didn't have the room we needed just to get ready for the night. only one person can be in the restroom to use the mirror and the hotel charges 30 dollars just to park: plus tip. [*] good way to show the guest that we rich. "yeah right" thats why i used [...], duh. oh and the cleaning ladies are loud as hell, so don't try sleeping late because there loud as hell. other than the nice comfortable bed that has a note on the night stand that they dont clean sheets and pillow cases very night to save water. ewww..... the stay was i guess ok..

Nice place

Excellent service staff. Very friendly and courteous. This is a very nice old hotel that is a bit quirky. Wifi doesn't always work, two of the three phones in my room didn't work, and there was no easy place to recharge my iPad-the only place I could do so went dead as soon as I turned off the light switch. So the place is beautiful and the staff is outstanding and it is in a great location. But you must be forgiving, because it is old and not everything seems to work all the time. If little things like that drive you nuts, then this is not the place to stay. If you believe that is part of the charm of fancy old-line hotels, than this is a great place to stay. It reminds me a lot of the Waldorf in NYC.

Half a block away from Bayou Park. A great running/walking trail. Forget the gym, you get to see a lot of Houston on this trail.

Lovely downtown Houston Hotel

The Hotel is a small period building, beautifully restored and intimate, has a friendly, helpful staff, with a free shuttle to take you to other locations in downtown Houston. Rooms were elegant & attractive, beds are comfortable, amenities pleasant. The restaurant is first rate, but not inexpensive. I do not generally use a spa or gym, so I did not miss that. I was attending a conference at another location and the hotel shuttle service provided transportation to and from my conference. Everyone at the hotel spoke excellent English - not always true at Texas hotels!

The Lancaster

It was just ok. There was issues with water pressure and climate control as well as water damage in the bathrooms. It definitely showed its age and was a little run down but very charming. It was clean and the staff was very friendly.
