One night in Grand King Room

Would recommend Thu, Dec 17, 2015
We were put in room 418, which has a modified bathroom to make it handicap accessible. This was fine with us, but there was no separation from the bathroom floor and the shower floor (besides the shower curtain), so our floor got pretty wet. There was also no bath mat so it was very slippery. Also, to switch the water from flowing out of the overhead shower head to the hand-controlled shower head, the switch is up really high so I think it would be very difficult for a handicap person to switch it. The toilet paper also could have been nicer... :P There seemed to be many basics missing. The room comes with robes, but no slippers... The bathroom floor is so so cold. Although there is a complimentary tea and coffee station in the morning, there is no kettle in the room... maybe so we are more tempted to drink their $6 bottled water? Side note: the breakfast blend tea + sugar + milk is delicious! They have a complimentary shuttle service, operated as first-come-first-serve, that will take you anywhere within 5 miles of the hotel. So awesome! We used this to go eat at Uchi. You can also call to have them come back to pick you up, but we opted to walk back. They said the wait for the shuttle is typically 10-15 minutes.

Great Location!

Would recommend Wed, Aug 6, 2014
Hotel Zaza is in the Museum District. Most museums are within walking distance or you can use the trolley system. Thursdays are free to most museums! Our petite queen room was extremely small, but nicely decorated. The pool area was beautiful as was the lobby. We made use of the hotel shuttle to take us to restaurants, the Galleria, and Minute Maid Park.

Dining

Rice Village has a lot of great restaurants!

good for a one-time experience

Would recommend Mon, Jul 28, 2014
Private pool, views, and location can't be beat, but overpriced forced valet parking, no included breakfast, limited evening pool hours but no hot tub, and pillows so flat you get neck pains don't live up to the luxury reputation. Also, the staff charged the room to my credit card rather than through my bank account via PayPal as I'd set it up when I made the reservation. Not a disaster, but not perfect service, either. I'd suggest a free guest shuttle within a certain radius, especially to reach affordable dining, or at least a few bagels laid out with each floor's morning coffee/tea to make guests feel like they're getting a little back for what they pay.

Favorite Hotel in Houston

Would recommend Fri, Dec 20, 2013
I cannot recommend the ZaZa highly enough. It is my second time here in five years. There has been no drop in quality, cleanliness, decor or hip-ness of this hotel during that time. Great location next to the Museum of Fine Arts and close to the university. Great food. Great staff.

Entertainment hint

The stunning galleries of the MFA Houston are a must see. The city is fortunate to have such a stunning institution and world class art.

Don't expect to feel like a customer

Would not recommend Wed, Aug 29, 2012
My stay here started very badly and ended badly. It was very hard see its good points after being bookended with such poor treatment of a customer. Our stay here was one night of a multi-day road trip, thus we had an ice chest with water, soft-drinks, and yes, beer and wine. After arriving in our room and having recieved our bags from the bellhop, we realized that our ice chest and another bag were not delivered. We went down to the lobby to retrieve them. However, the hotel had confiscated the ice chest. No amount of persuasion toward any staff would lead to the release of the ice chest. We had to retrieve it from the manager's office upon our departure. This is an obvious ploy to encourage guest to partake of the over-priced in-room food and beverage. It had the opposite influence on me, as I would have certainly ordered one or two drinks with my lunch, but instead ordered water because I was so ticked. I had earlier ordered a glass of wine for my wife -- $15 for a mediocre house wine. I did not indulge by the poolside either, but certainly would have if I were not so angry. Incidently, thoughout the stay, other guests paraded their ice chests through the lobby and loaded chests into their car at depature. Yes the hotel is trendy and would have otherwise been enjoyable, but it is not living up to the standards of customer services that other luxury hotels offer. By that comparison, I recommend staying at another hotel, luxury or not, that can offer more modern facilites with bigger rooms, bigger and faster elevators, more worldy staff, and less crowed conditions. My departure experience was less that satisfactory also. My vehcle was delivered with a substance on the rear bumper. It appeared to be oil or antifreeze, but whatever it was, an unremovable stain was left when the valet manager tried to clean it. She completed a claim report and said someone will contact me within the week. Now three weeks later, I have heard from no one. Presumably it is up to me to now contact them. This place has potential to be worth a stay, but based on my experience, there is risk that the visit will be spoiled from the start.

Bring the Money!!!

Would recommend Tue, Jan 10, 2012
This hotel is very unique. Very neat decorating.. This is a great place to go if your planning on having a good dinner and spending time at the hotel, not minding to spend a good amount of money doing so. To me the prices for everything were VERY inflated just because you were at a Well known nice facility, Where other facilities offer the same thing at lower cost. The extras you pay to have, like your inroom bar, snacks in your room. Everything just seemed over priced. $45.00 for a half bottle of wine, which a bottle at the store is $24.00 at another fine dining restaurants is $45.00 for a full bottle. The small liquor single pours are $10.00. $5.00 for a box of candy. It is VERY targeted for the upscale cleints. The Valet is unorganized.. took 15-20 mins to get your vehicle if you didn't call ahead with your valet card number, So if you were eating dinner at one of the restaurants then desided to leave it will be a min. It does cost 24.00 per day to valet. There are no other areas near the hotel to park. Great very upscale hotel transportation which were very professional and helpful. The hotel transportation is an outside company not employeed from ZAZA. A lot of locals and other travelers come to visit and eat at ZAZA while not staying. During Friday/Saturday Nights the hotel is packed. The pool area is very clean. Great small cabana's with flat screens and wet bars are around the pools. Which are great if you want to relax and have drinks or if you have company with you.

Nightlife hint

Due to the pricing at ZAZA, We went out a lot. MidTown, Rice Village are 2 great places with bars and food for night entertainment or just good food. Both of these places are within 5 mins of ZaZa and the hotel transportation will take you.
